W212 E63 S 4Matic runs 10.3@130 in the 1/4 mile with Pure Stage 2 M157 turbo upgrade and meth injection
People wanted to see 1/4 mile times for Pure Turbos Stage 2 upgraded M157's. Well, here they are. How does a 10.39 @ 130.92 sound? This was achieved at 25-27 psi of boost with 840 all wheel horsepower which the dyno run of was posted in an article early this year.
Here are all the runs:
The trap speed dropped hard on the 10.39 run. This is a bit odd considering a 10.42 run resulted in a 137.60 trap. A better 60 foot can lower the trap speed but not by almost seven miles per hour. Perhaps the car was a bit warm at that point?
Regardless, this is a low 10 second W212 E63 that traps up to 138 miles per hour. A seriously quick luxury performance sedan.
Precision Tuning has it running well and methanol injection is helping greatly. The car is still on the stock M157 motor and stock transmission to boot. How much longer the transmission can cope with these launches and the torque is anyone's guess.
So, who will be the first to get a W212 E63 into the 9's?

10.66 with 670whp
10.39 with 840whp
If the golden rule is 100hp = 0.1 ET then this car should have only gained two tenths but it nearly gained three, 2.7.

Doh!
i think it's 100lbs or 10hp = 0.1ET
i am sure you're right about diminishing return, but even so 170whp additional should give more than 0.27 second improvement....hmmmm

the TCU torque limitations are holding this platform back currently (I own same car).. we can get great whp runs on the dyno in 5th gear, but on the street/track the tcu severely limits what power gets from engine to wheels in first couple of gears so basically we cant use much more than tune/downpipe power levels in first couple gears as tcu intrudes
think about it, renntech was running similar times/trap (10.6/137) back in 2013 with their 700whp turbo kit and now we add 140 whp and get negligible improvement tells us that all that power isnt getting used on the strip
a tcu tune/ trq limits raised by gear is what the M157 platform needs now otherwise all the extra power just gets thrown away by the TCU as the trq limiters seem to be pretty severe in 1-3rd gear

Seems Renntech claims to now have the ability to tune the TCU.

I heard about the torque issue years ago and just assumed it had been taken care of....does anyone have the renntech software mentioned above?
would a piggyback stacked on top of a flash be able to trick the transmissions torque limits? What I'm thinking is, that in this case the flash is almost telling too much information to the ecu/tcu and the tcu is not happy about the torque so it's limiting to a max allowable level, so you keep that level the flash tune level and then trick it with a piggyback the rest of the way.... just like the flash+piggy m5 tunes out there

ive seen that but odd that they dont have it offered in their E63 section and only have it advertised under the suvs... weird thing is that tcu tune has a 722.6 code in its sku --->SKU: TCU:27.722.6.TS , while on their E63 section they have trans upgrade that is mecahnical (clutches etc) upgrade only (no tcu) and its sku has 722.9 code ---> SKU: Trans:27.722.9.7S
kind of confusing since both are for the M157 engine and both should have the 722.9 trans

no ,the 10.66 was when they were on stock turbos with meth... i think that's why the +170 whp added from turbo upgrade and -.27 in et only is a little surprising ... would of though a bigger decrease in ET

Well it completely depends on the tune. I don't know if they ran the full power or not.

The torque limitation in the TCU still present, but there is ways around those... Unfortunately the mechanical part of the car is something hard and near impossible to trick like we do with the ECU... In this case the clutch is something that is holding us back from faster times... We were pretty insisting with keeping the HP at the highest levels we dynoed the car on(+800whp) and the full weight of the car, but was impossible to get a full pass without having traction issue and or the clutch slipping 4th-5th gear. Sometimes big power doesnt get you as fast as you need so We were forced to bring the power down, only way We got the car to stay in shape for the most part of the run and actually get a decent pass... Top of the run boost still when higher than target and got some power reduction, which is why the the trap speed was lower.
It was a desperate solution since We really didnt have much of a Tune for this car with lower power, so it obviously wasnt "dialed in" as we normally would like the car to be, but at the end gave us some kind of better result than spinning from the line and burning clutch on top of the track.
As far as how much power less we used on this pass is anyone's guess without a dyno chart, but the solid fact I can give you all to kinda estimate is that we reduced the boost by 3-4 PSI and meth injection was turned off... regardless of meth being used only for safety still add some torque to the formula, so it was decided to be turned off.
Needless to say... We are working on a solution and improvements to actually bring power up back to what it should be and actually see what the car can do without restrictions, maybe some weight reductions as well to help with the effort being made to move this heavy thing up the 1/4 mile.

^+1 ... whoever figures out a solution to the TCU intrusion will be getting a lot of love from the M157/722.9 MCT crowd as we are all waiting, and willing to hand over cash, for that solution... I know at least 6 guys (myself included) that want to do turbo upgrade on M157 but waiting for a tcu solution that prevents it intruding and from cutting out all the extra power

A clutch upgrade that actually works, a wheel/tire setup that allow us to get either higher trap speed and stay in 4th gear the whole 1/4 mile or be in 5th higher in the rpm than we currently are... the current setup is what you would consider completely the opposite from ideal, 5th gear under 5500 rpm torque gets a little too high.

@kbaldi29
you mentioned weight reduction in a previous post, what do you think could be saved by removing all seats and putting in a lightweight racing seat? 200lbs?
What about a lighter battery? Is that do-able swap on the W212?
If you had any suggestions for others on the platform that would be great!
