well looking at the vm kit...it was kind of dark out but it looked like the hotside was nearly touching the inner body of the engine bay, which means you cant push it back and farther and the filter is so damn small up front if the turbo was any longer youd have no filter on it.
And i agree with you, The best is to come. all these companies just started breaking the surface with this platform. we have much more amazing products and discoveries to happen! as much as these guys argue like red headed step children on here...theyve been dong great jobs and i look foward to future progress!

36k miles with my top mount daily driver, canyon pusher, highway monster seems to be doing fine for me! As long as you have turbo blanket and the downpipe heat wrapped or coated you will be fine. Definitely more heat than a bottom mount, but where does heat go? Heat rises, so no matter what it will get very hot. I don't see top mounts being an issue if you have done the proper things to ensure nothing will go wrong. Take a look at GTIs, Cobalt ss, Mini coopers, Evos, STI, etc etc are all basically top/side mount turbos that are ridiculously close to things you wouldn't believe. They're still production cars and haven't heard of any issues with them!
Here is mini cooper with their stock location Top mount:
The filter has been tested and verified to show no loss in power. The KN filter we used to use however was a big restriction in power and we tested that on the dyno as well. The BMS filter provided a lot more surface area and has a much better design so it doesn't flex. Read post 15 in this thread where I commented:

Yeah youre right ive had 2 STIs already mid high turbo mount with no issues. That's why I added the word unexperienced opinion into my last paragraph so I didn't come off like I knew what I was talking about haha
And by the way the guy running the VM kit that i saw drove to the quarter mile off the street and trapped a 123 mph first pass haha!

The bms filter is a little bit ristrictive payam! I tested it on the dyno. Made 700whp without filter and 685whp with filter on the same setting(both 3 runs for a good compare)

Lol! No butthurt here. Motiv decided to infringe on my patent and they also decided to call me and proceed to be rude to me over the phone. I am laughing every day right now because I know exactly what my result is going to be. I'm coming to a knife fight with a shotgun.
Update on kit development. John is sending drawings and parts so I can help him out with the water outlet, oil feeds etc. I can make these for next to nothing and will expect John to reflect that in the price. I'll help him as much as I can to make the kit very affordable for you guys. I'm not doing this one for the money anyway.
yes Blaster3500, we might do an EWG version later. See how we do with IWG though. I think you will be impressed

I think this $#@! slinging without posting a single result is a poor idea. It would be a different story if you already had results, and they were better. I honestly cannot see one CNC manifold being so much better than another, as to say you are bringing shotgun to a knife fight. I would just sit back, and not say anything else til you post results

That never equates out ever, and a very similar Steed Speed manifold to this on that E36 graph we posted is hitting 400WTQ at 3K, but its a MUCH smaller turbo. I am going to say it right now, its not going to happen with a 9180, a smaller turbo and the right tuning I think it can. I mean stock frames are doing it pretty easily at the moment...
