Official - The 2020 F97 X3M and F98 X4M models - S58 motor 473 hp standard, 503 Competition models - Specifications list
Well, here they are. The new and quite strikingly good looking F97 X3M and F98 X4M models. The output will no doubt get the majority of attention as BMW went big with 473 horsepower in standard form and 503 horsepower for their Competition models.
The engine code is not stated which is interesting but it is an S58. BMW calls the engine an M TwinPower Turbo. That is fine. What the motor really shows is a preview of what we can expect for the G80 M3 much like how the S63 engine in the E70 X5M previewed the F10 M5's S63TU.
Let's go over the specs:

BMW likely has a winner on their hands here although it will not match the RS Q3 although that model is positioned against smaller BMW SUV's anyway. In this particular segment, all BMW has to fear is the GLC63 AMG which the X3M and X4M may put up quite a fight against.

0-60 in 4 sec flat for the comp at 4,600lbs, the m3/m4 being 1000lbs lighter will be amazing!

I don't think you have to worry for a few reasons:
1) I didn't know the next gen m3 would be an AWD, I heard the guys at M through a new post say they would continue supporting an M3 in a rwd manual format called the m3/m4 pure, hence why I thought that the next gen car would be RWD only. So you shouldn't need to worry too much about the xdrive hindering the handling if there is an alternate option.
2) They'll probably do it like the m5 to avoid the heat from the fans, where you can switch off and on the Xdrive at will to get the RWD experience if desired. If this is the case the only draw back is the weight and the fact it's going to be an auto (may or may not be a torque converter auto).
3) A benefit out of all of this is for guys that see a crap ton of snow, we finally can have a sporty ///M model to drive year round as a daily, instead of having to opt one level lower to get the 3 series to have X drive.
Either way I'm all for it, as long as they have an option to get RWD back and have a manual option for the hardcore as well. Otherwise they're killing off the M3 imo. I do wonder what is planned for the m2 as well.

No. Hence the AWD/RWD versions.
Yes, the pure M3 will be detuned though which is lame instead of making it a hardcore and lightweight M3 like they could.
I get it but the M3 isn't supposed to be a car that gets you through the winter. It's a track car.

Actually not true, just because they make a separate rwd version doesn't mean they won't enable the RWD function in an AWD car. The reason is because it is much simpler to make the manual version RWD only so they don't have to mess with a different version of the manual (new gear box is probably needed which is more development money on a gear box not many opt for) to send power to the front. Same reason why the m5 doesn't have a dct because it's cheaper to reuse the torque converter autos from the X5m. So essentially it's easier to just drop the Xdrive for a manual to save on engineering cost, but it doesn't mean the auto can't switch to RWD.
Most likely they won't go all out crazy even if the next gen car is RWD only, because they still have to appeal to the masses who want a soft version of the car... They'll save the hardcore varients for limited production like the m4 gts.
In terms of winter usage, most people aren't fortunate enough to live in a warm climate all year round and can only chose to have one car. So they may need to drive their track car all year round as a sacrifice. So it will be a good balance.
I just use bimmerboost for the forum only, not really into reading the news articles as there are other sites I frequent more to deliver news as it's more conveniently linked to my phones google now news feed, and I only really pay attention to the M2 stuff.

I was waiting for the X3M comp, but I just pulled the trigger and got Rebel Ram 19" so probably will replace my 335i F30 with G80 M3 looks promising, the interior in this X3M is amazing.
side note: stated is 7200rpm, but power figures state peak horsepower until 7300 weird.

Interior/dash looks like 2016 M4 except for the vent hood. Exterior looks nice tho. Hope they didn't stretch that back area in the X3M as the space looks decent.

It is true. It's why they are producing separate models.
M=Motorsport. M does not equal Winter. Buy an Audi.

This could make for a difficult choice in the future. I have been waiting for the x3m for a long time but a couple weeks ago I drove the glc63 and it sounds amazing. Handling and power were on point and a tune gives them a healthy bump in power. It will be a good competition.
