Does Porsche intend to teach 911 R flippers a lesson? Wingless 2018 911 (991.2) GT3 Touring package plus unlimited 911 R production run considered
Porsche has a big problem on their hands with people flipping cars for profit. They already stated they intend to crack down on the issue. It is a difficult problem to solve however as if you could sell a $185k 911 R for half a million dollars you probably would.
Porsche will not sell to people who immediately flip so that is one option to curtail it. Porsche also seems to be considering destroying the value on the secondary market of the car. They want that profit for themselves and if they can not have it no one will.
Porsche's R&D boss stated the following:

The wing is deleted, it is manual only, a bit of weight is stripped, and it has a 4.0 liter naturally aspirated 500 horsepower flat-6 motor.
The question is, what will the impact on 911 R pricing be? Will there be an impact? Will people try to flip these Touring GT3's?
The 911 R has a very special quality to it with its limited production that the GT3 Touring option package does not quite match. Still, Porsche is essentially offering another 911 R except one that is within reach for us mere mortals. Do not expect these to go for $500k.
