SSR Performance F80 M3 S55 stock turbo comparison to Pure Turbos Stage 2 91 octane pump gas with PTF Bootmod3 tuning
Those of you outside of California that do not have to deal with 91 octane pump gas do not know how good you have it. SSR Performance recently built this BMW F80 M3 and compared the stock turbochargers tuned on 91 pump to Pure Turbos upgraded units also on 91 octane pump.
The car is tuned through the PTF Bootmod3 S55 tuning system. The baseline run is with a Stage 2 OTS (off the shelf map) and the factory turbochargers:
The after run of 566 rear wheel horsepower includes the following:
-Pure Stage 2 Turbos
-Bootmod3 Custom Tune (flash only)
-SSR Performance Downpipes
-SSR Performance Intakes
-SSR Performance Chargepipes
-Remus Catback Exhaust
-Stock Fueling System
566 rear wheel horsepower on crappy 91 octane pump gas in California summer heat is impressive. It would be more impressive if the correction factor was displayed on the graph. RPM would not hurt either.
SSR Performance is shooting for 650 wheel horsepower with an ethanol blend on the factory fuel system. BimmerBoost will be sure to update you on their progress.BRAND NEW IN BOX 991.2 standard/non-pse SPW cat bypass pipe for sale - $899 shipped

Can someone explain to me how an S55 is capable of reaching such good numbers on $#@!ty 91 ACN, while N54/N55's with comparable turbo upgrades seemingly can only dream of doing so?

Hmm, what about when there's a Stage 2/3 lpfp involved? Or is the HPFP truly that limiting in comparison on N54/N55's? Obviously running these power levels with such awful gas isn't the most ideal--at least when you're pushing the limits for extended periods anyway, but sometimes having a nice stock pump gas map free of any mixtures, meth, etc. would be very nice. Fill up and go, nothing more.
