VAG IS38 turbo record improved to 11.1@125 by MKVII Golf GTI running flash and JB4 stack

Last month this MKVII Golf GTI ran 11.295 @ 124.20. A very impressive time and a record for the IS38 turbocharger which comes from the factory on the Volkswagen MKVII Golf R and the Audi S3. The owner shaved that time down to 11.172 @ 125.93 now.

This is a front wheel drive Golf with a factory turbocharger knocking on the 10 second door. Obviously the tuning plays a huge role as APR's tune plus the BMS JB4 stack is doing wonders.

Don't forget the meth system or the Golf R intercooler either.

    Congratulations to the owner:

I ran an [email protected] with a best trap speed of the night at 126.85mph last night. The car ran great and the weather conditions were pretty good, but the track prep was non-existent minus the 15-20min they spent at the beginning while setting it up. As a result, I went slower and slower as the night went on to the point where I gave up, so did almost everyone else on this test and tune night well before closing.

My setup for this run was seats and spare tire removed, custom straight through 3" exhaust that dumps at rear axle, E30 mix fuel+meth injection for cooler intake temps, M&H Racemasters 26x8.5x17 tires on custom 17x9 Signature wheels and JB4 turned up to kill mode lol. 100% factory IS38, factory fuel system throughout, and engine/trans all stock internally. Please keep in mind this car is still my daily driver and it's intention was to build a great daily/autox/track car... never drag racing. So it's suspension setup and brakes are not very friendly "drag friendly", but good tires and plenty of power do the job just fine. I really want that 10sec pass on this setup though, so I'm going to keep at it until I get there

Very impressive. Does anyone have plans to modify the IS38? I'd love to see a golf run deep 10's at 135mph with $5,000 in mods.

I think there are some people who are already modifying it.

You would think that should make for easy 10's.

I don't know about easy, but they're right there. That is a DIRT CHEAP recipe for a very fast brand new car if the stock internals can hold up. I'd imagine you're only looking at $7,500 in mods to hit those numbers. I think a base GTI is something like $25,000 and a used car is probably in the low $20,000 range. Pretty great combo.

Apparently the limit on a stock motor is 450 awhp which requires a larger turbo than the IS38. Many options out there and I'm trying to figure out which one to go with. I'm trapping 114 in the 1/4 and 137 in the half with only JB4, intercooler, intake, and downpipe. I'm at $2,500 or so. Probably cost about $5,000 more to hit 450 awhp.

You already have an IS38 though so why aren't you trapping way higher?

Because I'm just running a JB4 at 25 psi. That car is flashed and using the JB4 to add more boost; I'm thinking close to 30 psi. I38 won't last long at that level.
