Rocket - Watch the 2018 Porsche 911 (991.2) GT3 accelerate with launch control from 0-250 kph

You need turbos? Really? Just look at how quickly the new 991.2 GT3 gets to 250 kph (155 mph) and how it just rockets through the gears in the video below. It is absolutely incredible Porsche gets 500 horsepower out of a naturally aspirated 4.0 liter motor and revs it to 9k rpm.

This is a masterpiece of a motor. The PDK transmission certainly helps as well as the gear changes are practically instant. The 6800 rpm launch control doesn't hurt either.

Plus that sound! That glorious, glorious sound as it sings toward 9k rpm.

As for the performance it is obviously quick. We are likely going to see our first 10 second naturally aspirated Porsches with the 991.2 GT3 models.

These cars are just incredible...this motor will have to go down as one of the all-time greats. Absolutely incredible. And even at 144k they're a bargain...nothing else drives like this, looks like this, goes like this, sounds like this, or is built to the same standard.

It's hard to argue with any of that.

$144k is not even bad. Maybe I'll get one next.

I wish there was a way to mod them though. Just a teeny bit of boost...

Agree with everything. But Porsche is creating another monster with these dam things. It almost impossible to get one, and those that do will turn around and get 250K+ for these. Especially with all the accolades. "Better than the R" is pretty much what most of the press are saying. And they are supposedly bringing out a touring package eliminating the big ass wing - those will really be untouchable. I've been looking for a 2016 and they are almost all north of 150k regardless of options and that engine/chassis is no joke - these things are even better and the price will go through the roof and will stay that way for years.

The engine is what makes the GT3 such a bargain. I couldn't venture to guess the cost to reproduce something like this in the aftermarket and you get a warranty to boot. BMW slaps a tune and water injection on the S55 and charges near GT3 money...lol.

I agree - this is one of the best engines ever built, however very few people are going to be able to even buy one at MSRP. They have pissed off a bunch of loyal Porsche guys because they aren't releasing hardly any. A select few and Porsche dealers are ordering these and they will have mark up to 200-300k and people will buy them. They create marketplaces where most people can't enter, even if you have the resources to buy one. So yes if you could actually buy one for 150k it's a great deal, but we can't.

I agree the majority will have markups. But msrp is possible, if you have done your due diligence. My buddy has a good relationship with his dealer, bought both his 997.2 GT3 and Cayman GT4(skipped pdk 991.1 GT3) from them. Also a Macan for the wife. He put down a deposit many months ago, once he read the manual rumors and has an allocation lined up at msrp. It is for a build later this year, when the manual is available. There are a number of other guys on Rennlist with msrp deals in place as well.

    That's a very good point.

M used to do this type of thing though. Well, not this good (who is this good?) but they would work on the motor.

Now it's just software and some water.

The 991 GT3's will get pushed down.

Once the 991.2 GT3 RS hits and someone has to have the newest and greatest the 991.2 GT3 will get pushed down.

The real question is how long will Porsche keep producing the GT3.

I know - Its BS though. My Build was just at 160K because I wanted SC and PCCB's. I was ready to pay cash and they said no. The allocations they have left they will be getting for the lot. You know they wil ask 250K+. Come on the GT3 is not a R or 918 or even a RS, they are not exclusive at all. They are starting to treat these like Ford GT's. I see GT3's all the time in S Tampa and they are everywhere at PCA DE's. When the RS comes out, I get it - those are 250K cars and should be treated as exclusive (Where the average joe like me cant buy one) but the GT3?? Wait untill the GT3 touring car comes without the huge wing and that bad ass 911R 6 speed tranny. 300k+

They have their people they go to first for cars like this. If you bought a 918 I'm pretty sure you could do whatever you wanted.

It sucks but that's how it works.

Not really, to the Porsche fans it always will be. Its just not an exclusive car! They are everywhere! But the 991.1 motor has 475 HP and revs to 9K (although they have some reliability issues). Its a bad ass motor. I don't remember this much fanfare. They are running this $#@! out of control, these new 991.2's wont be under 200K for years. Thats a shame.

I have to disagree. The US was passed up for the 996 MKI GT3 and it was a pretty big deal. The MKII came and I remember my friend in high school (yes, high school) picking one up for markup. Lot's of people at that dealer were trying to get that car.

Don't get caught up in the hype. Throw a tune on your car and wait it out.

I hate the idea of removing the ECU too. Anyway, hopefully I get something worked out with GIAC soon as I'm waiting on a response.

I'll let you know what comes of it.

Maybe a piggyback option is in your future... Click here to enlarge
