Things are changing big time at Ferrari. Last year Ferrari's CEO Luca Cordero di Montezemolo quit the company after being at the helm for 23 years. There clearly was a power struggle with FCA (Fiat Chrysler Automobiles) CEO Sergio Marchionne over the direction of the brand.

Montezemolo said Ferrari was becoming too 'American' whatever that means. If we were to guess, he means all about sales and volume although that is really where the Germans excel these days. Either way, he quit and Sergio Marchionne took over.

Marchionne has no problem adding models and increasing sales even to the previously untouchable Ferrari. Montezemolo wanted to increase profits with making models more exclusive and keeping the brand rare. Well, profit potential has won out.

If the rumors are true expect a new Ferrari in he $180k range with a twin turbo V6. If McLaren can get away with the a 575 model in this price range Ferrari probably can as well.

It certainly will not improve Ferrari exclusivity and it certainly will dilute the brand but even Ferrari is taking the BMW approach now. Just like they slap an M badge on everything Ferrari will now slap a prancing horse on everything.

Who wins? Profit margins win. Before anyone gets their panties in a bunch keep in mind this is all based on a tweet from some guy at MotorTrend with no actual source to site who probably just wants to inflate his follower count. How far automotive journalism has fallen:
