Next generation 2016 Audi R8 spotted testing on the Nurburgring
Here are spyphotos of the next generation R8 which will be based on the Lamborghini Huracan platform. The car was spotted testing on the Nurburgring and is expected to be roughly 200 pounds lighter than the current car. The transmissions and motors will carry over which means expect a 450 horsepower 4.2 liter V8 and a 5.2 liter V10 shared with the Lamborghini Huracan although likely detuned through software to protect the Lamborghini's image as the current R8 V10 is.
What is immediately noticeable by the styling is how similar it is to the current R8. The sideblades that are one of the standout features of the R8 coupe's styling return. Much like the Huracan the new R8 will be evolutionary rather than revolutionary. Changes to the front and rear lights will be most noticeable as well as the front and rear bumpers with a new diffuser and tailpipe configuration in back.
Expect the second generation R8 to hit showrooms sometime in 2015 as a 2016 model. Also expect turbocharged power for the car down the line.

Mmmmm, hotness! The rear kind of reminds me of a square Murcielago. That's quite a big diffuser.
