back to upgraded hot side y piping inlet piping (dead horse)
So before I begin I know this topic has been brought up before for upgraded stock frame turbos, But seeing as how you need to remove hot side piping to install the turbos. Why hasn't any of the stage 2 developers tried this and if anything be something else they can add to there product promotion. I'm sure it would help with cooling to get rid of those tiny pipes with crush spots.
** intake piping (beaten to death I know). I remember a topic on it a whiles back but nothing ever came from that. all we got were logs and some pics of front piping and rear piping being rerun over top of engine. i just cant find that post its on bimmerboost somewhere.

I know that. but what im getting at is a complete package to go along with upgraded stock frame turbos. Theres no data or anything regarding a full upgraded system to compliment the upgraded turbos. I'm sure it would help keep power to redline and help with longevity of the turbos.
I dont have the resources to be able to do this. an I don't expect anyone to do it for me. Im just curious if anyone is interested in the challenge an offering a fully upgraded supporting system to go along with turbos. I know its none of there responsibility to do anything supporting mod wise, but no one at this point knows what the outcome is.
EDIT: to go all out on the turbos with internals, boring out, lines.... why not everything to make them a better working system2008 E92 335i- HP: 423 TRQ: 453 - Sold

Think it was Rick@Defiv who figured this out on an N54.... Thing is it's incredibly to difficult to fabricate/modify to each platform/install. I don't believe there were any PRE-install logs, only POSt -- so it was a little difficult to make an accurate comparison

Didn't somebody put a vacuum gauge on the inlet once and determine there would be little benefit? Stock turbo issues breathing high in the rev range are more related to their physical size and upgraded frame turbo's are related to backpressure, not so much intake. I mean I'm sure there would be a gain, but I don't know if the level of complexity would be worthwhile below truly upgraded turbo's.
There was a guy who was making a set that had a gold thermal shield too IIRC.

The cold side has been done a few times but nobody has taken the time to actually test thoroughly before and after. I've never seen the hot side done and that should be pretty easy for a fabricator to knock out. Would be nice if somebody would test it and see what kind of difference it makes.

I ment both actually lol. The hot side on the turbo side y piping that connects to the intercooler. An the turbo inlet pipes.

ahhh fair enough
the LHD pre-intercooler charge piping is pretty decent, not all smashed up and stuff, and smooth
i plan on getting the dent next to the steering rack on my RHD cut out and a smooth piece welded on or something, and seeing if there's any advantage (can't see why not, it's crushed in half!)
i'm surprised no one has done it, there's PLENTY of room from a brief inspection (further inspection to be conducted) - i don't believe the stock turbos would be anything other than harmed by making it any larger, as you'd lose velocity anyway?boop

I honestly feel that the actual hot side charge piping is sufficient given the size of the turbochargers, even with RB/Vargas upgrades(aside from the stage 3 Vargas which replaces everything anyhow). The only reasons I actually embarked upon that punishing venture is because 1. I was waiting on a flywheel from clutchmasters for 3 weeks and the car was stuck in the bay and 2. I obviously enjoy a little punishment/challenge now and again....Hence the lack of before/after logs. Does it make a difference? Yes. Is it easily replicated and installed? Absolutely not. It could be argued that the main difference is gained from where I placed the filter (under the oil cooler and modified ducting to provide cool, fresh air). That particular car is returning later this week for another experiment with direct port PWM meth injection, another oddball project I've been working on for quite some time. I will put a sensor before the filter and try to collect some data this time. I would presume that if I were ever to attempt to replicate the tubing, I would have to do it all in molded silicone via some provider of those things. That won't be happening until the customer goes with a single turbo, which I'm sure will happen eventually, but It's not on my "high priority list" atm.

I would imagine by doing basic math from the flow numbers that would tell us at what point it starts to be a restriction. Similar to finding a filter if you know each turbo need X amount of CFM to produce the desired power you find a filter with that CFM plus a little (20%?). Any chance somebody can pull off one of the factory inlet pipes and get it flow tested somewhere?
