    Tuning for E85

Considering all the other "tuner" platforms are moving onto E85, I am wondering why we are not. Is the fear mongering done by BMW and ethanol content killing HPFPs really scaring the community from using it?

    Let's discuss.

I plan on testing E85 on Cobb stage 2 RACE, 2 parts 93 octane to 1 part E85 for testing. meth nozzle on of course.

I also wonder if Cobb could or would be willing to tune for pure E85?

tuning is just making sure you have enough fuel in the trims.

I raced a FBO (40% E85) AT some time ago and he beat me by a couple feet... very close race from 50 to 130mph. Strong setup. He was running a little more boost.

if your still gonna spray meth, than whats the point of adding the e-85? I had asked ian from cobb about my timing corrections and his thoughts on blending e-85 with 91 and he said:

"The more minor cylinder corrections in only one or two cylinders is fairly normal. Consistent corrections could mean you need new spark plugs, but higher octane fuel would probably be the best fix. We don't recommend mixing fuels because of the variability in the accuracy of the mix. But we have seen some users have success by mixing a few gallons because the BMW ECU does a great job of compensating for those changes.

We are hoping to have AccessTUNER released very soon, but we don't have a definite timeline yet. I'd love to take a look at some E85 blend logs though! It would be a great comparison and value information for my own knowledge. If you have any other questions, please let me know."

Haven't had time to do any logs of the e-85 yet, but if time permits I'll do it tonight and send them in for analysis. What I really wanna see is if mixing a half tank of 91 plus 5 gal of e-85 will get rid of the timing corrections I had and if so I'll give the 2+ aggressive map a try.

I'm running stage 2 race. Even 90/10 meth mix with 93 octane causes timing dropouts in certain cylinders.

wow, so has cobb recommended a certain octane level your supposed to run with the race map? I know its made to run on race gas, but meth can be used instead.

Minimum 102 octane or twin 1.0mm nozzles with an 80/20 mix. In terms of flow my single CM10 flows as much as the twin 1.0mm aquamist nozzles, but I'm looking for a bit more octane cheap. Click here to enlarge

Lots of JB4 customers run E85 mixes. 25-40% works best. Many can even get away with map 7 on the stuff! Just keep an eye on fuel trims and adjust up FPMapping as needed. With a flash, monitor trims, you may not even need to make any changes to the tuning end for it.

The plan is to run meth on top so it's purely experimental. Vbox the before and after. Click here to enlarge

Also want definitive evidence vbox verified on how short shifting and flatline impacts performance.

I've been doing the 60/40 mix pretty constantly now; car's doing fine, I know I'm not getting anything from it only running a stg2+aggressive. But was doing it to see if my car responded well, or if it complained at all. So far nothing, whatever I was getting was my own damn fault (swapped 19/20 wires when O2 SIM was removed)..

I emailed Rob recently, let's see if he says anything.
