Interesting nitrous log
Got this log from a nitrous customer earlier today. He's running race gas, meth, and some ridiculous nitrous shot like a 46 jet. Can anyone spot the oddity?
For those not familiar with JB4 logs when map = 20 the nitrous is activated. MISC is the rear bank fuel trims scaled so that 50 = +34% and 0 = -6%. AFR is set to show the leanest of the two banks at any given time. Funny thing is the driver didn't even really notice it during the run. This nitrous is seductive but dangerous stuff!

Holy lean spike batman! Why is the dme pulling fuel in 3rd though?
Oddly the car didn't knock, at least according to cylinder 1.

wow!
danger and a half, good failsafe there man! that could've been kaboom if it wasn't for that AFR leanrun nitrous cutoff...although it was a very dangerous situation its sort of comforting to see it handled nitrous deactivation so well...imagine on top of that leanrun the solenoid got stuck in the open position
is he running 1 or 2 solenoids? Can the jb4 run 2 or 4 solenoids simultaneously? 2 for nos 2 for fuel
Terry, can you plot the fuel pressure and throttle on there with AFR just to see something, if you don't mind...i've noticed that on really high boost (21psi) on my car, if i get a massive throttle closure for some reason I'll see AFR lean out a tiny bit (0.5-1point) in that area and as soon as throttle opens again it'll go back richer again...just wondering if he maybe lost some traction there and had the throttle plate intervene and thus the sudden lean condition
it'd really be cool to have that leanrun protection there just in general and just open the wastegates wide if such thing were to occur

Wow I missed the nitrous cutoff.
. Wouldn't it also be nice to cut boost as well? The guy is running 18 psi with that huge ass jet. Thing must be fast as hell though that's for sure

The general lean run protection interval is around one second. So if it had stayed lean for a touch longer he would have reverted down to map 4. I really don't have any explanation for the random lean spike other than he was likely producing well in excess of 500rw at that point. Running 18+psi with a huge nitrous shot is more about will my car make it down the track one time without oiling down the lane rather than will the motor last 50k miles. But he's very lucky it wasn't damaged. No doubt the integration helped. But that is the price we pay to go fast. If you aren't breaking parts you aren't racing hard enough!
The plan is to kill his 18psi across the board map 6, go back to my suggested map 3 with a +40 additive, raise the bottle pressure a bit, and pray.Last edited by Terry@BMS; 10-28-2011 at 02:15 PM.

Oldbooster melted a hole in piston #1 while logging and the cylinder #1 advance curve held a steady 11 degrees throughout the event. Looks like #1 was getting less meth than 2-6. When dealing with lean run issues often you'll melt something and then only pickup knock/codes from oil flooding combustion, loss of compression, etc, after the damage is already done. Fueling is a serious concern at these power levels!

question: why is throttle closing at the end of the run before he lifted off the accelerator pedal? over target?

The DME target dropped down close to 0 so may be overrev or a speed limiter.

Damn that's by far the biggest jet anyone has used on this platform and running 18psi. Guy is nuts but thank god the JB nitrous integration saved his engine from going Kaboom.

I up my jet size to a .15 so I am living my friend!! Lol. Also it's worth 20-30 IMO. All those jet sizing charts are shown for N/A motors and boosted the gains are more from what I read. I love my car too much to be a renegade, plus my pockets are not deep enough if the engine blows up on me, even though it can still happen but less likely with my "PIDDLY" shot!

Bro why you messing with me!!! You know outright that Shiv cocked me with nitrous integration. That fool never keeps his words and that's one thing I hate about him the most. His tune while there were and still some issues it works as advertised to some degree and his new offerings does not work on my car but with the 7-11 maps that i am currently using, I am at the moment satisfied. I have nitrous setup on by wot micro switch and go fast trigger button. That's another reason why I won't go larger shot. No safety integrated into system. It's a bare basic nitrous triggering setup. I might add a rpm window switch and call it a day!!

Giving me the wiring to the procede means balls and he knew it. He didn't give me the software to change settings as I see fit. I asked him for it and he never gave the software. What's a nitrous integration when I have no software to control it like how Terry did it with Jb nitrous integration. That's totally bull$#@! if you ask me. No money to be mad so he ditched it which IMO shows me its all about money. Terry is by far one of the best enthusiast/tuners on the market. I just wished I started tuning from the very beginning with him. He makes his money but at the same time he is a junky enthusiast like you and I. Anyhow I am happy with my setup. I rather use it more frequently then just for track purposes, that's why I have small shot
