Question CEL after AR Design Catless Downpipes install

I went ahead and got some catless downpipes from AR Design for my F10 550 N63 and will be installing them on Friday along with Meisterschaft mufflers and mid X pipe from the secondary cats back.

I know the CEL will pop on my dash from the catless DP's while I wait for a tuning company to release a tune for the F10 with a rear 02 sensor delete, and I'm ok rolling with the CEL on for a few weeks/months

However, are there any side effects from the CEL being on, other than being annoying every time you look at it?

Thank in advance for your input.

    Lui

On the N54s it has a tendency to throw a half engine light and 'reduced power malfunction' from time to time..which means you get no boost.

I have only seen this on a handful of cars, some others seem to run fine forever with no 02 sim, some cant even leave my shop without throwing a light.

Nah, nothing is wrong with your car. The CEL is just letting you know something is wrong with emissions in your case... Your car should perform normal the CEL shouldn't matter.

From my experience, it just annoys you. good news is you can cut the wire and turn it off forever.

Had the catless DP's on for approximately 200 miles without getting the CEL. Then last night, it popped on my dash while I was pulling the car into the garage. DAMN :p

Good news though, been talking to a some tuners and there should be a fix for the F10 chassis within the next 2-3 weeks Click here to enlarge

BTW is there any way to know if your running rich?

A CEL is no big deal but can be annoying. You can get it turned off with a tune, OE Tuning can do it for you if you want.

It's closed loop, it won't run rich. You will just have the CEL due to emissions malfunctions, aka you have no cats.

Just need a flash to bypass emissions functions that the car is looking for that are no longer there.

You can purchase an "off road use only" flash that will bypass those functions and leave you with a check engine light that works only when there is a problem non-related to emissions (exhaust).

Active has a flash tune available along with several other sources on this site!! I only recommend products that we personally have installed/experienced and I will say Karl @ Active's software is truly industry leading!! He spends ALOT of R&D and testing time along with working with people that truly know these cars inside and out and in my opinion spends more time perfecting his tunes than many other options out there!

That is a good option, one can just disable the CEL if they want. I assume that is priced differently than a full tune as well?

Correct, usually there is an additional cost from most tuners, however if you have a good retailer your buying from you might be able to get a price that makes it worth it!
