    535i JB+ Install

Anyone on the forums have a JB+ on their 535i? A friend of mine wanted to install one, but I don't want to remove the airbox to get to the TMAP sensor. Anyone mind telling me where it's located so I can get a small child to put their hand undernearth? Click here to enlarge

Honestly though, I'd rather have an easy install as removing the airbox is tedious for him, since he isn't that tech savvy.

    Thanks in advanced!

Moved to the N54 section since it deals with the motor/tuning.

Yeah, was going to post here, but the 535i just has more things in the way. Either way, I'll probably be removing the airbox just to see where it is.

It's tough to reach and the 535i has no cowl. Just remove the airbox it's easier. Click here to enlarge

Removing the airbox is pretty quick and easy (although getting back in was a royal PITA for me --- hard to get the ducts back on completely). I'm trying to figure out where the solenoids are for the bypass. On later model E60's they're nowhere near where the JB installation manuals state. I think I found one on the left hand side of the engine but it's almost impossible to get to. If someone has done the bypass on a late model E60, I'd love to know which solenoid they used and where it's located.

The JB+ bypass isn't required and can have side effects. But the solenoids are in generally the same location. Just follow the vacuum line from the black vacuum canister.

Thanks Terry. I took another look and did, in fact, find the second one and it is a bit easier to get to. What threw me off initially was the picture showing the washer fluid filler cap being near the solenoids. On newer models they're on opposite sides of the engine.

I read a number of older threads which indicated that the bypass is a good idea if you bump up the JB+ beyond the default setting. I was going to move the dial to around the 2 to 3 o'clock position. So you're saying I'm better off not doing the bypass after all? If so, I'll leave them alone.

It's a trade off either way. At the higher settings generally it's better with it. At default generally better without. The best approach is the JB4 dynamic solenoid control. Click here to enlarge

Definitely getting a JB4 -- once my warranty is over. Even plugging in the JB+ made me nervous despite having a BT cable to check for codes. Click here to enlarge

He installed it but got a CEL, he posted on N54tech - think terry knows about him. He was asking about the tuner code? Not sure if anyone knows this.

If he didn't read the code and email it in I probably haven't helped him. I can't do anything without knowing the exact code thrown. I also don't normally help people via forum threads.

If he bought the JB+ he should have gotten the CT combo. It's only $80 more ($100 off regular price if bought alone) and lets you read/delete codes, do stuff in dash, etc.
