New 2024 Honda S2000 with K20C turbo power for 25th anniversary of S2k?
Raise your hand if you heard a new S2000 was coming before. Ok, put your hand down. Many of us remember the rumors about a mid-engine S2000 from 2014 and Honda playing games about a new car. Do not forget they delayed the new NSX by several years only for it to be a giant letdown.
What we have here is something more realistic than a mid-engine S2000. With the 25th anniversary of the model coming up in 2024 Honda states they will launch a new roadster with K20C turbo power.
Having the drivetrain already in place gives credence to the story:
According to a source close to Honda, the brand’s marketing gurus are seriously considering the launch of a next-generation S2000 that could surface to celebrate the coupe’s 25th anniversary in 2024. But it will have a lot more power.
This all sounds fine and dandy but an unnamed source from Honda and specs pulled from imagination does not amount to a solid endorsement.
If you are betting on a new S2000, bet for Honda to disappoint you.

The best argument I've heard that sports cars aren't dying is pointing at the price trends on BaT for classic sports cars and even 2000s models. It's not that people who have money aren't buying sports cars, it's just that the modern crop is relatively weak and uninvolving. They're too heavy, too compromised, too focused on numbers, and forget what makes a car fun. There's a good reason why an S2000 CR can go for over 75k US.
