Is it a Raptor killer? 2021 Ram 1500 TRX with 702 horsepower for $70k

Well, this is what people clamored for. BoostAddict personally would prefer a lighter (and cheaper) street truck with the Hemi powerplant but the Ford F-150 Raptor changed the game and desert runners are now all the rage.

$70k buys you a Ram with a ton of power and impressive suspension:

Ram boasts that the frame underneath the TRX is 75 percent different from a regular Ram 1500. It uses thicker high-strength steel with low torsion attributes for stability and durability. The side rails are fully boxed, and sections of the frame are hydroformed. Ram claims its truck holds up to jumping and high impact events better than the competition, which in this case is simply code for the outgoing Raptor. It’s designed to handle rough terrain at 100 mph-plus. Compared to a Ram 1500 with the 5.7-liter V8, it’s 600 pounds heavier. Ram is not messing around here.

Damping is taken care of by Bilstein Black Hawk e2 adaptive shocks, aided by nitrogen-charged remote reservoirs to ensure maximum durability. The shocks will continuously adjust damping force to best handle the terrain, but you can control them via a number of modes, too. Ram says that in addition to the off-road capability, the shocks make for a smoother ride on pavement. The internals of the shocks feature a “Jounce Cut Off” that has three zones for progressive bottom-out control. You know, for when you take that jump at speed on your way to the office.
    It's impressive:

The tires are specially developed by Goodyear for the TRX. 325/65/18. Yep.

Massive tires, massive power, and massive weight. What does this monster do in the 1/ mile? How about 12.9 @ 108. That is pretty impressive. 0-60 comes in only 4.5 seconds.

Oh, it has a rock crawl mode and it can tow. That capacity being 8100 pounds with 1310 pound payload capacity as well.

Will Ford fire back? They have to right? Could we get an F-150 with a Predator V8? It sure is a fun time to be a truck fan.

This is going to be the ultimate tailgate everyone on the highway truck.

In all seriousness though, this thing is pretty damn sweet. There is going to be a waiting list a mile long at that price. Dealers are going to make a killing with mark-up.

I wouldn't pay markup for this thing. If I had to have something similar I'd get the Durango.

It's badass but is it $20k better than a Raptor?

With an extra 250hp I'd say so. 12.9 is moving in something that size. I'm sure Ford will respond with a similarly priced supercharged Raptor in the next generation F150.

Fixes the only thing I don't like about the current raptor, which is the lack of V8. This thing is hot.

Wow how is it 1000lbs heavier than the Raptor?
I know it uses a modified 2500 RAM frame but 1000lbs seems like a lot

F150 chassis with its aluminium body, it's ~1000 lbs lighter than any steel truck of the same size.

Normal 1500 Ram looks like its 4800-5300 lbs tho. So the TRX is 1200 lbs heavier than the heaviest 1500 Ram?
    Seems crazy still.

The Raptor Ecoboost proved itself in Baja. This thing hasn't and let's be real it won't because they can't cool that monster going balls out in the desert heat.

Do we all love how big and powerful this thing is? Sure. But I think the F-150 Raptor would still whoop its ass in a real desert race and with a tune its faster and lighter.

Yes, but trucks should have a V8. I rest my case. Click here to enlarge

    It's a good argument I admit.

So let's see the Predator V8 in the Raptor already.

My dad said the same thing when he bought his last F150 with the 5.0. I couldn’t convince him towards the 3.5L EB even though it’s arguably the better setup, especially with the 10sp. But alas, no dice. It does sound nice with the V8.

The $90k launch edition already sold out so it seems people love this.

    $90k though?

I don't know if you have ever lived in the mid-west, but loaded up pickup trucks are a status symbol there. They don't look at the X5M or RSQ8... the F150 King Texas Ranch Double Cab Bass Pro Shop Edition is what you're buying when you've made money. I'm not the least bit surprised the initial allocation is already claimed.

Exactly. If it's a truck big dick measuring contest you better believe I'd roll up in that.

Love these truck HP wars. 2017-20 F150 Raptors are about to become cheap... (can’t wait any longer for the Bronco Warthog or Ranger Raptor)
