Ford Shelby GT350 gone for 2021? New Mustang Mach 1?

This news is somewhat sad as the GT350 Shelby Mustang is something very, very unique in a performance car landscape that is somewhat starting to blur together. You could call it America's GT3 and the Voodoo V8 is something special and unique you can not find elsewhere.

Apparently the GT350 is not to be found in Ford databases for 2021 but a new Mach 1 is. This would leave the new GT500 as the only Shelby model and if anyone was dreaming about a DCT GT350 that thought is dead.

The new Mach 1 would fill the gap between the GT Mustang and GT500. A power bump is expected along with sticky rubber and probably some brake/suspension changes.

Ford has yet to officially confirm the death of the GT350 so there may be hope but it is not looking good.

I saw this, so disappointed Ford didn’t make it one more year with DCT as an option. Car would have picked up a half second in the 1/4. Absolutely love the voodoo. Videos do that motor no justice, hearing them in person is intoxicating.

Seems like a ton of power is being left on the table too with the Voodoo, I really don't get it. What is the point of replacing it with something that has a similar chassis but a more standard engine? Seems like it will likely have similar power to the 350, maybe a bit more if they really go nuts...but there's no way they couldn't get a bit more out of the Voodoo as is without reducing reliability to any degree.

I guess it just comes down to cost. Maybe now they'll offer the Voodoo as a crate motor?

They probably felt the 350 and 500 were redundant but I sure don't see it that way. I don't see a GT3 and Turbo as redundant.

I was under the impression that this new Mach 1 will replace the Bullitt edition Mustang GT where they just take the intake manifold from the GT350 and give it a bit more power than the GT and better handling maybe instead of the nicer interior.

It definitely won't be a replacement for the GT350 and won't make as much power (probably around 500 hp to be above the current 480hp Bullitt.

Ford is basically rotating the Boss 302, Bullitt, and Mach 1 names to mean the kinda special Mustang below Shelby but above the GT. I guess rotating the names fools some people into thinking each one is SPECIAL and RARE so they buy them to wipe with a diaper and keep in their garage as a "collectors item"

Right? Wouldn't it be way cooler if Ford built a new Boss 302 that was essentially a GT350/R in terms of body and suspension but with a Gen 3 Coyote and at a lower price point, maybe manual trans only? And then continued to offer the GT350/R and added a DCT on there for the serious track guys. Fill in those niches. Porsche are the master of that, maybe the Mustang lineup could take advantage of the same tactics. There's a 911 S, GTS, GT3, GT3RS, I don't see why Ford wouldn't use the parts bin and try a bit of that.

I agree. I think the Boss 302 name is stronger than the Mach 1. Boss was always track oriented and Mach 1 was just kind of a tarted up GT.

How do we not know that is not what we are getting? I hear rumors about the DCT in this thing.

Good point. I guess I'm just unfamiliar with what's associated with the Mach 1 name, whereas the Boss 302 is pretty much legendary at this point. They could even use the Bullitt engine in it.
