Trying to Locate DME relay in 2008 BMW 335xi (12/2007 build)

I've been trying to find my DME relay...it's not in the ecu box. I also don't have the fuse carrier that says "motor sicherungen" on it. All posts I find about the ecu box do not look like mine, but my ecu box does look like the pics on how to install a JB4 in that I have a 50 amp fuse near the power wire and also a black relay which appears to be the electric fan relay. This pic shows what my ecu box looks like. Click here to enlarge.

The Bentley manual image "electric fan" for my model does not look like this at all.

I looked it up in ALLDATA. I cant attach the pics from work computer, but it says its in the DME box upside down. Its a black relay K6300 designation. Its between the red or green fuse (cant remember off the top of my head) and the silver relay that is upside. It should be forward of the DME. If you cant find it remove the connectors on the DME, get the wires out of the way and take a picture of the inside of your box and we may be able to help more

Thanks for checking into that for me. I've attached some pics of my DME. Unfortunately, doesn't look like what ALLDATA describes Click here to enlarge

Should be sky blue. Have you checked under the dme support? Only place left I can think of.

To confirm the function of that relay, by pass it by jumping contactor 3 and 5 together with male spade terminals.( relay removed of course and jumper on harness side) If the fan kicks on then its a fan relay, if the DME powers then its the DME relay.

Black relay in your fuse panel is the "DME main relay". Located to the right of the panel, at least in my car. I have an 08 as well and went friggin nutz when I had problems with it. The black relay in the ECU box is the fan relay , as mentioned earlier.

    Good luck!

Thanks everyone for the input. I tested the black relay in the fuse panel and it tests as good. Brought to a local shop and they confirmed its a bad DME. Looking into RPM Motorsport to send them my DME to swap with a new "re manufactured" one for $1200. Much better than the $2300 I was quoted at the shop.

Sorry about your DME. What was the problem? No start, No Crank, or just wouldn't communicate at all?

It would crank for as long as I left my foot on the brake but would never turn over.

Yup I actually had all six replaced before this happened. Got a 30bb code which is why I changed the mosfets. After the new mosfets were in I got different codes but no 30bb, so the issue must've been deeper than just mosfets (or the dude botched the job, it looked good though).

This should probably be made a sticky in the N54 section.

Sorry guys I forgot all about this tread! For future knowledge I went online to https://www.rpmmotorsport.net/ and they sent me a new msd81 because they couldnt fix my msd80. Once I installed it I think I replaced a couple ignition coils and she ran better than ever.
