Lamborghini offers the 2020 Huracan Evo in rear wheel drive for $50k less - Huracan Evo RWD

This is very similar to what Audi is doing with the R8 for 2020 regarding offering a cheaper rear wheel drive model. Lamborghini previously produced the Huracan LP-580-2 which is rear wheel drive only but now the Huracan Evo model gets the rear wheel drive treatment.

Along with the revised styling, handling, increased power, and traction control the price is cut by over $50k to $214,366. This certainly makes you wonder just how large the profit margin is that not powering the front axle supposedly saves $50k.

The extra power (602 vs. 572 previously) comes through minor revisions but the engine was always capable of this power. It is a ceremonial bump but kept lower compared to the all wheel drive Evo in order to justify the higher price tag for the all wheel drive variant.

The new traction control system will allow greater slides which is one of the main advantages over the all wheel drive variant other than just the price and weight loss.

There certainly is tremendous value here until you factor in the R8 RWD further undercuts the price by a substantial amount.

Looks like Lamborghini and Audi want to milk what is left of the platform. The RWD R8 should be $130k or so.

$130k for a nice V10 supercar would be crazy.

A pretty much base 992 is $130k nowadays...

Exactly. Can't wait to see those R8's hit the showroom but the only problem is boosting them will be an issue with traction.

They'll be tons of fun to drive without boost though.

You can make them hook on ther strip at least with a good big rear tire. They will definitely have a bit less traction in daily situations but I wouldn't say being RWD should deter anyone from boosting these.

If they really are $130k new I feel like they will sell like hotcakes!

The previous RWD version was less than that so I don't see why not.

Are you talking about the R8 RWS? Because I thought that was like $140+

The R8 RWS was bargain priced here. 163,000 CAD (or equivalent to 125,000 USD). Never got a chance to drive one, but the base V10 R8 (2019?) that I tested was actually a bit of a let down in stock form. The car wasn't at all savage and felt very much completely stable and controlled. Honestly driving an RS7 was more exhilarating experience. Maybe a tune and exhaust on the base car change that, or by making it RWD. However quite a few R8 RWS reviews/comparisons were not that favourable to it...

I have never driven a V10 R8 but I suppose these days pretty much every NA car doesn't FEEL as fast or scary because we are so spoiled by the huge surge of torque from turbos.

Horsepower ultimately wins races but big low end torque for sure FEELS faster on the street/butt dyno.

My CTS-V gives such a good kick in the pants and feels faster than other cars I have driven with higher hp/lower weight because it has low end torque right off idle and in any gear.

The R8's V10 is still a sweet engine and huge bargain if it is selling these days for $130k and if isn't dramatic enough, I guess throw a supercharger/turbos at it lol.

Definitely a good point. Going from 560 lb-ft (it was a pre-facelift C7 RS7) to 400 lb-ft in the base V10 car felt like a huge step down in terms of kick in the ass factor when you hit the throttle.

145-160k CAD (110-122 USD) can pick you up a nice 2017 V10 base car here, before any negotiations. I don't know what the import rules are for you guys but cars in Canada are comparatively less expensive than the US a lot of the time now because the 1.33 FX ratio isn't built into the prices exactly. AMGs, RS models, even my Golf R was relatively cheaper here (again, not sure what the import/tax situation is for you guys).

No doubt FI would change my feelings on the car. I bet 650 BHP N/A would be the sweet spot for actual usable power though, 1000 HP is good for scaring yourself in 1-2 gears before you let off for fear of going to jail.

Yeah Canadian cars are alot cheaper than American versions, and we also tend to have less options in regards to trim level so you will likely get more options as well for less money. If you're willing to deal with the speedo being in KM/hr then you can save alot of money, especially if you buy it in a provincial tax free province like Alberta. There are dealerships offering limited edition cars like the m4 gts (back when it was new) or m2 cs for MSRP and from what I heard on some facebook groups even allowing negotiations. So not a bad idea if you guys want a good deal.
