Introducing the 2020 BMW F93 M8 Gran Coupe - 617 horsepower M8 Gran Coupe Competition

This is the halo car for four-door BMW performance. Say hello the BMW F93 M8 Gran Coupe and the M8 Gran Coupe Competition. The powertrain is exactly the same as the M8 Coupe and Convertible models and BMW will of course milk the platform for what it is worth.

As a quick recap the S63TU2 4.4 twin turbo V8 offers 600 horsepower in standard trim and 617 in Competition trim. This is sent to all four wheels through an 8-speed automatic gearbox.

What does the M8 Gran Coupe cost? $130,995. The Competition goes up to $143,995. Both models are actually a few grand cheaper than their coupe counterparts if that makes sense to you.

The real question is the styling. Does the M8 design lend itself well to four doors? Honestly, it sure does. This is a beautiful car inside and out.

Yeah, I don’t typically like BMW styling but they nailed this one. Would take over a GT63 or Panamera.

For a car of this size, weight, and character, it really should be a 4-door. Looks pretty great. Definitely better than the somewhat awkward rear quarter of the GT63. I'd still go Panamera Sport Turismo over this though...

I googled 8 series coupe vs Mustang and it's a thing...Ford should make a sedan based on the Mustang.

    I'd go Panamera or GT63.

Though it's not the same category but the M8 will definitely steal some brown sugar from Porsche.

Still incensed that BMW, and especially Mercedes have found out they can take their mid-size sedan, that in some countries can be found used as a taxi, and juice it all the way up into, in the case of the GT 63S, a 200k+ car.

This thing is beautiful, and I'm sure will be great to drive...but I'm still massively disappointed that the 8 Series is *not* a proper S Class Coupe/Bentley Continental competitor, based off the 7 Series...it's just a sexier 5 Series, that's it. Was really hoping we'd get a proper Panamera competitor in the 8 Series, based off of the 7...I suppose there's much more profit in doing this instead.

Side note...I find it strange that so many continue to compare the Panamera to the mid-size class, when it most certainly is in the same class as the S/7/A8/etc.

Why isn't this a proper Panamera competitor?

I think rear space and leg room put it in that mid-size class as does performance. Panamera vs. A8 makes no sense to me.

I remember the first time I went to Switzerland and almost all of the cabs in one city were E Class wagons. It was hilarious.
