2019 Chevrolet C7 ZR1 Corvette takes on a McLaren 720S from a dig and from a roll
The performance credentials of the McLaren 720S are well established at this point. We are learning more about the ZR1 as more owners test out their cars but despite the new ZR1 packing some serious heat its 755 horsepower 6.2 liter supercharged LT5 V8 makes less power than the 720S.
Yes, the horsepower rating is misleading as the 720S dynos just short of 700 rwhp. Its 4.0 liter twin turbo V8 also has a higher redline at 8000 rpm for tighter gearing plus a dual clutch transmission. It is roughly 300 pounds lighter as well.
In other words, the ZR1 is overmatched on paper and has more drag from its aero system.
The first run is from a dig and the ZR1 gets the jump. It holds a lead for a couple gears before being blown away. The subsequent run after the McLaren owner's bitching about the start has the 720S get the jump and run away.
A roll race does not change things but only shows that the 720S is on another level.
The ZR1 isn't even in the ballpark.
