    And on a different note:

The 4L80E swap seems to be becoming more and more of a reality. There is at least one guy who swapped a PowerGlide into his E9x recently. He made his own adapter plate, and used a custom converter and driveshaft. Also, I think there is some company who's in the process of developing an adapter plate / kit. I'm not sure what other mechanical hurdles there will be in terms fitting the 4L80E inside of the tunnel, but there's always the option of the 4L60E which I believe is physically smaller (but not as good).

I personally think this would be the best solution for the higher power guys. The 4L80E is a beast of a transmission even in stock form.

As for controlling it, you can use a manual valve body, standalone controller (like a Microsquirt which can be had for under $500 including harness), or you can even hard-wire the electric valve body to be manually shifted.

I was also thinking about developing a CAN based 4L80E controller if there is enough demand. This transmission is relatively easy to control (unlike a clutch to clutch transmission like the ZF 6HPxx). I could probably have a working controller prototype in a couple of weeks. The end result would be a car that shifts on its own and drives like a stock auto. I could probably get the paddle shifters working as well.

If anyone is interested in working with me for developing this, let me know. I could see this being useful if the 4L80E swap becomes more common.

You and Andy (AD Engineering) should collaborate. He has already swapped a 4L80E into his N54. Not sure the details of how he is controlling it however.

This is GREAT news! Are you collaborating with any of the MSD80/81 tuners on this? They are experts at making sense of random tables.

I'd be glad to help out. I haven't been keeping up with his developments. As far as I know, most people were using standalone controllers or manual valvebodies. I'll start researching. Maybe I'll make it an opensource thing like I did with my meth controller. I love working on projects like this. The only issue is that I don't have a car to actually test it on. Something like this may take a while to dial in.

I'm not sure. I'm not actually directly involved in the process; only tossing in my 2 cents every now and then. I think there are some fairly experienced people involved though. I believe one of the guys has cracked a few BMW DMEs before.

I wish they made the tool public so others can start contributing, but I understand their decision. On one hand, I'm all for open source development, mainly because I like learning about how things are accomplished. On the other hand, I can understand someone wanting to protect their efforts. It would suck to spend all this time working on something only to have another company come along and start protifing off of your work.

The thread originally started off as a public collaboration, but after the RSA signature issue was resolved, now it seems pretty closed off.

A Google search for "Transmission remap - Let's do it ourselves" should do the trick.

That thread actually found pay dirt? I'm shocked. This is great news though. I wonder how much they will be charging for it? We will surely see delays in the months in their attempt to secure it financially, and then it will just get cracked anyway.

You should start a new thread here to get more attention. This is gold but buried under forgotten posts.

I've already done so here: http://www.bimmerboost.com/showthrea...26-TCU-Cracked!

More or less it follows along exactly what I and others have predicted would be necessary.
