Do you mind saying who did the head for you?

From reading I believe the VAC stage 3 only has 0.5mm larger exhaust valves but stock sized intake valves.

I'm curious what other head options are there other than VAC? I'm sure there are plenty of shops that can port a BMW head but VAC says they have off the shelf solutions.

From what I've seen, they come REALLY rough with a ridiculous amount of meat left to remove. Even the "stage 3" seems conservatively modified.

I think @alex@ABRhouston has done N54 headwork so he might be a better option.

Alex did the original head work. Our local shop did some more when they rebuilt the motor.

The empirical evidence presented in this thread would suggest that's the exact approach that the current commercial options for head porting have been utilizing.

As Tony said I think it's an accumulation of many parts that resulted in the power gains. I think Terry had a ported head that didn't yield much in terms of gains a while ago. I have a head that was ported and gains show around 30% improvement, the head porter does a lot of the V8 Supercars here in Australia I expect to have the car back on the road in a few weeks finally. Hoping for decent gains with a completely new setup. Tony sure has upped the game.

It would be great to see some data. If it's 30% then thats very significant and I'd actually consider getting something done myself.

How much power did you make with your GC's?

I pick my car up this morning after a full motor rebuild, forged bottom etc and can't want to see what the GC's do after run in.

Good luck. Looking forward to seeing what it does as well.

About time we get more independent GC numbers out there.

I know this is VD, but its on the same road:

I have to drive it on 15psi until my S2 Bucketless arrives on Monday. DP Meth goes in tomorrow. Dyno hopefully next weekend or weekend after. Unsure since I have to buy a new windshield for the NWN Motorsports event on 12-13 May.

Nice, I've yet to see any doubles in the wild but it works really well on Tony's car.

Looking forward to see the results, even tho i like the single barrel more i'm still interested in the dual one.
Don't really like the 3600psi rail pressure, that can't be good.

LOL, and why can't that be good. Because it "sounds" high? I would love for you to base that assumption something besides "that can't be good. Actually its the key to these cars making big power. I wont help all the people struggling to keep up with us, but 3600 is actually low. We run over 4000PSI on the Ecoboost platform. I have never had an injector fail from anything except sitting too long with Ethanol in them. But hey let people think its high, and not good. We like being on top...Click here to enlarge

I don't know, maybe because it is almost twice the stock pressure ? And maybe the rail and the injectors are not designed for that kind of pressure ? Not saying they can't handle it short term.
And no 3600psi isn't particularly high compared to some diesels which run 2000 bar, but it is high compared to our stock pressure.

Well in that case, stock boost is 7 psi, 14 psi CAN'T be good. You know its almost double the stock boost levels. Your logic of it being twice factory levels, makes little sense. Who's talking Diesels here? Yes they run as much 15K psi at time in the cummins. Were talking GDI motors, 3600 psi not high, but like I said, let people think it is. Its fine with me...
