    X4 M40i N55, where to begin ?

    Hello everybody,

New to the forum and to the BMW world, before this car i had a Lancer Evo X with Bolt-ons and of course remapping, but now I know i'm entering a new world Click here to enlarge, In fact I don't want to tune the car to a maximum, just "optimize it", no hardware change at all, after reading articles / websites here and there, i'd have some questions if some of you can help it would be glad :

    1) I think my car needs DME unlock, but impossible for me to go somewhere to do that, i live in Africa Click here to enlarge, what's the solution here ?
    2) The car will stays stock, what gain can I expect with an OTS tune ? I run OCT 90-91 depending on the season lol (this is africa).
    3) I guess the top speed limiter and higher rev limiter will be removed along with cold start cat heat cycle. Can these changes be dangerous for a stock car ?
    4) Main function I need (as i won't service my car at the local dealer), read / clear errors and maintenance alerts (oil reset, brake pads change light reset).
    5) Well the bonus question, if i suddunly want to upgrade the car, which brands should I look for Click here to enlarge (for bolt-ons, turbo untouched)
    Thanks !

    Nick

You'll get a decent boost on pump gas. It just depends how aggressive you want to get. Going into the mid to upper 300's at the wheels won't be too much trouble.

As you are all wheel drive and won't want to mess with meth or your downpipe I'm guessing you can expect another 50 horses or so.

The rev limited and top speed limited will only be removed if you specifically ask for these to be removed in a flash tune.

You would want a downpipe and intake. I think BMS has those items in their store.
BRAND NEW IN BOX 991.2 standard/non-pse SPW cat bypass pipe for sale - $899 shipped

New generic 991.2 PSE bypass pipes - $499 shipped

    Thanks for your answer :

    1) Senegal

    2) If I ask for the rev limited and top speed limited removed, with stock car no problem ?

    3) BMS ?

    4) Which are the top etuners out there and how to deal with the DME unlock where I am ?

    There are two typical solutions.
    1) JB4 or some other piggy back tuner. JB4 has tons of great features and amenities, but mostly just for FBO or Stage 1 turbo cars.
    2) Flash tune either you need to find a tuner in Africa or do bootmod3. Bootmod3 lets you load maps over your OBD2 port/internet, but you need to ship your DME in for unlocking at a dealer. I doubt there are any that service Africa.

I sure don't know the custom laws over in Africa, however I would think you could ship your DME into PFT (canada) for repairs with no duty or customs charges. Make sure you say repair/replace/warranty on the customs documents to avoid a lot of questions/hassles.

I thought the same thing but nope. It's the same code as the M2 motor just downrated I guess

X4 M40i has N55 similar or same revised N55 found in the M2.
Many parts are shared, almost everything except DCT & Overboost.
355hp 343tq at the crank from factory

    OP,
I am running BootMod3 now; working closely with @dzenno@PTF @protuningfreaks Team Dzenno & Halim are just great!
You can venture out anywhere, but I would probably save you sometime since I've been testing piggyback (most popular) for quite some months, street-tuning, dyno, drag-strip and comparison against other N55 cars (m235, 335).

Personally, you would need 93 octane or better to run the car aggressively even in stock form, I think 91 will cut down on power. Second, I'll let you know how much DP gained versus stock in a few weeks when I go back on to dyno (my butt dyno, testing says minimal). To sum it up, my current Beta Map of BootMod3 STG2 for DP + 93, is running faster than my previous jb4+ewg+map2 w/ e30 blend did.

Thank you all for your answers, I'm already talking with Bootmod3 and will see what to do with them regarding my fuel quality.

RobNyc your X4 looks beautiful ! I'll post some pictures of mine when I have sometimes.

Another thing : All the tuning softwares can read / delete errors, but can they also reset services (oil, brake etc), manage brake pads change, battery change activation etc ? What diagnostic tools like the Autel MOT Pro EU908 can do for exemple.

Carly for BMW can do most if not all of that stuff for around 120 bux. I don't remember seeing that bootmod3 but I could be mistaken.

You can reset Oil in the board computer I know that for sure!

Thanks for the info, in fact yes Carly can do "almost" everything, the battery service is still in development for my model. it can service brakes, now i don't know if with it we can open the brake pads jaws to change the pads, i will discover that once I receive the car..

What about the Exhaust Valve Control ? The change from Eco mode, comfort mode and Sport + mode don't already open / close the valve depending on the chosen mode ? Is there a performance gain or is it pure pleasure / sound
