NA vs. Turbo - Porsche 991 GT3 RS vs. 991.1 Turbo S convertible roll race
A Porsche 911 GT3 RS is not made for straightline speed or acceleration. It is at home on the roadcourse where it will run circles around the heavier 911 Turbo S and in particular the convertible model.
In an article last month the new 2017 Porsche 991.2 models were compared to the 991 GT3 RS and what we learned is that the GT3 RS can hold its own in a straight line against the turbo Porsches despite having a naturally aspirated 4.0 liter flat-6 and aerodynamics designed for extra downforce.
It also helps that the GT3 RS weighs 3292 pounds. The 911 Turbo S convertible in this video is closer to 3700 pounds and is the heaviest 911 variant. It does have more power and torque however.
So who wins? The Turbo S convertible. They do two runs and even when the GT3 RS gets a nice jump the Turbo S still runs it down. The aero on the GT3 RS just causes too much drag at higher speeds.
If you want to race in a straight line, don't get a GT3 RS.
