BMS fires back at Dinan with BMW F-Series JB+ Performance Tuner for N55 and N20 motors starting at $199

Competition is great, isn't it? BMS basically owns the BMW piggyback market. Dinan has tried to muscle their way in (despite saying piggybacks are bad) as their flash tuning business is basically gone with the new Tricore ECU's. It has not exactly gone well for Dinan as their piggyback products are overpriced and they underperform.

Well, overpriced until they launched a basic boost controller for N20/N26 and N55 engines retailing for $299. That conveniently and deliberately undercut BMS and their Stage 1 tuners which start at $379.

BMS is responding with a JB+ F-Series option that starts at $199. BMS states the JB+ will provide ~35 wheel horsepower. We do not yet have a dyno confirming this but it is on the way. Suffice it to say BMS historically backs up their claims with dyno graphs. Dinan on the other hand does not.

It sure would be fun to do a back to back test of these two on the same car with the same fuel on the same dyno. Maybe it's something BimmerBoost can make happen. Either way, BMS continues to offer the best performance gains per dollar in the BMW aftermarket.

Timing and fueling remains managed seamlessly by the DME preserving all factory safety systems.

While the JB4 is the ultimate tuning tool the JB+ is a quick and simple way to add a few HP with minimal cost and minimal install effort. Something that anyone can buy, install in under a minute, and really feel from the drivers seat. Compared to our Stage1 tune it offers a lower cost and easier install but lacks the additional benefits of MAP sensor control and data logging. Depending on the settings and conditions expect a little less horsepower than the Stage1 all else being equal.

Fuel economy during normal driving is unchanged. Compatible with both pneumatic and electronic wastegate vehicles and all driving modes. Automatically detects the engine type upon installation allowing the same unit to be used for any F series N20, N26, or N55 application! Not available for sale/use within California.

Honestly I would probably go ahead and spend the extra $100 on the Dinan piggy. A little cheap insurance, the off chance something goes wrong and you might have Dinan on your side. Yes I now people sh*t on their warranty and prices. In this case, whats another $100.

I see your point about the warranty but didn't we have a guy struggle with getting Dinan to come through on a warranty claim?

I dont think there is anything that can go wrong with that level piggyback. You are just wasting money with Dinan if you go that route for warranty.

I'm sure people buying the target car new isn't short a couple hundred dollars either way when optional equipment on a new BMW is already so high.

At this low end level the price will determine sales more than anything. If I guy isn't ponying up for a JB4 the $100 probably is the deciding factor.

Either way, BMS has the value.

You're forgetting the kids that have leases parents are paying for.

Some kid gets a 328 and wants more power. He can't even afford an Xbox.
