Ferrari 488 GTB and Porshce 991.2 Turbo S AutoExpress comparison

These may both be twin turbocharged cars with dual clutch transmissions but they are quite different. Even the casual car fan knows the 911 Turbo has the engine in the back and that it is all wheel drive. The Ferrari 488 GTB is a mid-engine car with rear wheel drive.

The Ferrari is lighter but it's not a huge difference. We will know the exact figures when independent weights get out (Ferrari behaves like an insecure woman trying to make the world think they are lighter than they really are) but the 488 GTB is probably a couple hundred pounds lighter than the 991.2 Turbo S.

Displacement between the two is similar with the Porsche at 3.8 liters and Ferrari at 3.9 liters although with a V8 while the Porsche has a flat-6. It's interesting that AutoExpress says the Porsche feels naturally aspirated and you would not know it is turbocharged. That is a bit hard to believe.

The Porsche is praised for its all wheel drive and being very usable. Great. But it is also stated it is not as visceral or involving as the Ferrari which is a big point. The Ferrari is more exciting to drive.

Unfortunately, they do not do a performance comparison between the two. This video amounts to a bunch of talking while recording the cars moving about. We will have to wait for a real comparison between the two. This is nothing more than British story time.

It's a shame they couldn't do more. Being that Sutcliffe is an excellent journalist I'd bet Ferrari stipulated no direct head to head testing or recorded #'s
