LAAS 2015 - Mercedes-AMG brings the AMG GT GT3 race car and it is badass

Quite the sight to behold. Take in the beauty that is the beast known as the Mercedes-AMG GT3. Now although this race car is based on the AMG GT it uses the powerplant from the previous generation SLS GT3 platform which is a 6.2 liter naturally aspirated V 8 known as the M159.

This vehicle is designed for gentlemen racers which means a customer can purchase it and go racing in various GT3 classes around the globe. Not exactly a cheap way to go racing but this is for big boys competing with the world's best.

It will be interesting to see if the Mercedes-AMG GT3 will evolve to house a direct injected turbo motor for racing bringing a closer tie to the actual AMG GT street car. The GT3 drivetrain remains very similar to the previous generation SLS GT3 down to the sequential transaxle gearbox.

The vehicle itself is stunning and the security guard Mercedes-AMG had on hand agreed with me on that point. He stated they had a hard time sourcing even one of these for the show and wanted to make sure nobody messed with it. A logical precaution for a machine of this caliber.

Simply a stunning vehicle.
