Ferrari F12 Berlinetta versus bolt on Porsche 997.2 Turbo S roll on

Two very different cars racing here. The Italian is a rear wheel drive GT featuring a naturally aspirated 6.3 liter V12 with 731 horsepower and 508 lb-ft of torque. The German is the Porsche 997.2 Turbo S you are all very familiar with featuring all wheel drive, a 3.8 liter twin turbo flat-6, and a PDK transmission.

This 911 Turbo features bolt ons including GIAC tuning. Wheel horsepower should be somewhere in the mid 600's. We have seen these modifications produce a 9.8 @ 135 1/4 mile run. The tuned Turbo simply offers more power and torque than the Ferrari F12 especially when run on race gas which both of these cars were. The MS109 fuel is not doing much for the naturally aspirated F12 though.

The F12 is no slouch by any means. We have seen it go 10.893 @ 132.57 in the 1/4 mile. On paper it is overmatched here.

How does it play out in the real world? Well, the F12 gets beaten down even worse than the 1/4 mile results would lead you to believe. It isn't even a race.

This is Adam's turboS and yes it's damn fast. Went for a ride on 2 passes against a 600whp Supra and SLS AMG. Neither were a match. The best matchup for this car was Surges stock turbo GTR making 600+. Both cars were trapping around 168mph and bumper to bumper.

The guy driving this F12 was in his 20's which seemed to come into effect because with the power it makes he should've been at least even.

Surprising outcome. I'd expect the F12 to run like a 135+mph car from a roll.

This is 1/2 mile racing. The F12 will trap 160+

I mean you'd expect it to be stronger but that was ugly. That didn't look like the F12 at its best to me.

Once half mile racing is standardized I will use it as a datapoint. Half mile traps that may start from a stand still, from 45mph, from 60mph, be 1/2 mile +/- 100 feet, etc, don't have much use as a data point . When I say 135mph I'm referring to a 1/4 mile trap that applies globally.

The time I've wasted trying to explain this to people. Roll on 1/2 mile traps are pointless.

Standing start at least has some uniformity to it.

I feel like F12 should've showed a bit better...it's heavier sure but doesn't have the weighty drivetrain. Also probably evenly matched on power. That V12 is very high compression and direct inject, ECU might find a few extra hp on 109 if that's what it was using. From stock they do have a bit of trouble putting the power down though, stock tires are 1 cm too narrow, maybe 2, so maybe had traction issues at the very start.

Either way, that's a damn fast Turbo, 997.2 is still a rocket ship any way you cut it. Can't wait to see them start popping up with bigger turbos and built engines. Should be devastating.

I didn't even realize it was direct injected.

13.5:1 compression ratio... damn. Revs to 8700. That motor is no joke.

Yeah it's practically a race engine. I can't even believe they found another ~50 hp on it for the LaFerrari. Apparently an F12 "GTO" is coming late this year with probably about the same power level, should be epic. I love the Lamborghini V12 to death but the Ferrari 6.3 has it beat in every way...revs higher, more power, more torque, both at lower RPMs and with flatter curves...also better fuel economy, emissions, and with less displacement. Ferrari may be run by $#@!s but they still do build basically the best NA engines in the world.

Well... just their V12's now. Also at a price point that makes their work essentially reserved for a select few.

BMW used to deliver race motors to the masses. Now the Americans do.

These résults are no surprise to me. If there is a faster 911 TTS with just bolt ons out there than Longboarder's I am not aware of it
