335is Overboost button: Give it a new purpose?

I have not checked, but has anyone figured out how this button works? Does it assign a whole new map or does it just modify the existing maps? Can the overboost time limit be changed? Can it be used as a toggle between maps intead? Is there a way to give this button an entirely new purpose (Meth/N02/exhaust cutout activation/step up launch control RPM)?

I didn't know there was an overboost button, I thought the DME handles overboosting when certain conditions are met.

I've researched this in the DAMOS and the bins, it appears to just use a separate few tables that work as an adder to boost and there is a decay time for how long it lasts.

You know, I'm not actually sure how it works, I've never been in a 335is

You are probably correct, I just know there is a button associated to the overboost feature.

How modifiable do you think that could be?

The related tables could be modified, but I find it pretty worthless. Just tune your boost higher from the start, no?

i could see a benefit in it if it was a switchable function i.e. use it as the ability to change maps/load targets on the fly?

That's if it's an actual physical button, which has not been confirmed. And what you're talking about is way beyond simply modifying the values in those tables, it's a complete rewrite of that buttons functionality. That's like a 2hr job vs. probably 200hr+

The sport button on the 335is with DCT not only is mapped to different tables but also linked to the DCT for faster clutch engagement and engine response time.

You would have to probably make Sport On a Sport off function, and make a Sport + for Sport On to do something else, however these tables to my awareness is not available to us

Interesting idea for sure.. The flash / coding guys would have to step in and answer.

But like others have mentioned why not just tune to overboost all the time Click here to enlarge

    Mike

With knowing that the overboost button is actually a passive feature of the sport button, it would make more sense to simply tune for more. If we could program new features entirely, that would be something cool worth looking into.

One thing that always interested me, was figuring out how the M3 adjusts the launch RPM of the DCT. Clearly there is some extra hardware involved and in my mind that would require some work in the TCU but it seems Gintani has access to mess around in that area so it should be possible to at least modify that RPM level and make launch control useful again for those who are modded.

So is this over boost feature basically just a version of scramble boost?
