Don't ever speed in Virginia - crazy article

3-days in jail for speeding. Are you f'ing kidding me? Wow.

    http://jalopnik.com/never-speed-in-v...-in-1613604053

Not that Virginia was high on my list to visit, but I certainly won't be visiting there now. This quote sums up the article pretty well:

No doubt. Virginia is for lovers, but not speeders! And I'm a pretty conservative guy, but even I realize that jail isn't the answer for the majority of people. Makes no sense to throw someone in jail for speeding, or MJ use, etc. - waste of tax payer dollars.

Oh, and btw - Virginia's fatalities per 100million miles driven is just slightly better than average, so apparently their strict laws don't help much.

Here that speed would have got your car confiscated for 28 days, and you lose your licence, but no jail.
Anything more than 45kmh over the speed limit falls under "hoon law" legislation.

I can see that. But jail? That just seems nuts.

With my track record, I would have already served about 2 months of jail time if I lived in Virginia lol.

If you grew up there (as I did) you just know it and drive accordingly. You can pretty much go 6 over without fear of getting a ticket on the highways. Over that and you are just asking for it. Residential areas I don't think you have that much leeway. Also don't forget that radar detectors are illegal in VA.

The good thing for me is that I grew up in a rural area and the back roads aren't patrolled.

Virginia sucks. It is full of retarded laws. Just don't stop. Increase speed to well over a 100 immediately and pray no other back up is near by. I'm pretty sure I am a wanted felon in VA from my last trip through. Click here to enlarge

Didn't read the whole thing but holy $#@!!

Up here in Canada, Ontario is the province with the more severe laws. 10 000$ fine for street racing or excessive speeding.

I was coming back from MexCali doing a buck twenty with an Ultima R on my door most of the way. We passed a trooper in Southern MexOregon and needless to say the R was slower.... I hit the next ramp and did a U-turn to get back on the highway before shutting down. After watching the trooper drive by and a short 5 min break, I pulled back on the highway where I passed the trooper and the R sitting on the shoulder about 2 miles past the ramp were I was sitting.. I'm sure the driver of the R wasn't having a good day because we didn't slow down. I wonder if the driver of the R noticed me go by while he was sitting waiting for his tickets. I'm sure the trooper was busy making a list.

FML got a speeding ticket today. Hadn't happened for a couple years. Was late to an appointment, 149 km/h on the highway. Cop was nice, gave me the smaller fine (175$, 3 points instead of 298$ and 6 points). Black car hiding under an overpass. I had no chance.

I bought our shop car in VA, the guy that sold it to me, was like seriously this isn't cali, do not speed here at all, the punishment is ridiculous. I waited til I crossed the border to start breaking any laws. I in fact got a speeding ticket on the way back in Iowa, the fine was like $57 dollars.. Oh Iowa... haha

Why is Virginia so insane on speeding? It's stupid. Sounds like they just want a revenue stream.

They pist off the feds years ago by not enforcing one of their laws. As such, the feds cut off federal highway funding. So the state decided to make it back up by increasing ALL motor vehicle fines. Run a stop sign, $1200, reckless $3K +, don't even think about a DUI as you will need a black card to get out of jail, LOL

Easy to say, drive SLOW in VA or else be broke.
