2016 W205 C-Class cabriolet spotted testing with folding soft top

The pictures you see are of the two door W205 based C-Class convertible. The car is expected to make its debut sometime later this year (likely at the Los Angeles International Auto Show) and will share the powertrain options of the W205 C-Class sedan. The photos show a hard top but it is there to camouflage a folding soft top. The soft top likely was chosen to keep weight down on the convertible model so no folding hardtop like the SLK or SL.

What is interesting to note is the convertible will not revive the CLK nameplate. Additionally, will we see a C63 AMG convertible this generation? That would make a very fun four seat convertible. Mercedes did state it was a mistake not to produce an AMG version of the E-Coupe.

Additionally, the spyphotos preview the W205 chassis coupe design. A coupe version of the platform is expected to follow just as Mercedes did it with the previous generation W204.
