Dodge swings for the fences and officially rates the SRT Hellcat at 707 horsepower for the most powerful muscle car ever built
The most powerful muscle car? That would be the 2015 Dodge SRT Challenger Hellcat. We knew the 6.2 liter twin screw supercharged Hemi V8 would have somewhere over 600 horsepower but nobody knew how far Dodge would push it. Well, they decided to drop jaws and top the 700 horsepower mark.
This means Dodge is offering more power than any of its Domestic rivals. The Ford Shelby GT500's 662 horsepower has finally been topped. The Camaro ZL1's 580 horsepower does not even seem worth talking about.
The question now will be how strongly Ford will fire back. They will likely want their title back so Dodge may have just pushed the GT500 over 700 horsepower as well.
Well done Dodge, well done!
Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Is The Most Powerful Muscle Car Ever -- 707 hp!
July 1, 2014 , Auburn Hills, Mich. - The all-new 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT, with its supercharged 6.2-liter HEMI Hellcat engine, produces an unprecedented 707 horsepower and 650 lb.-ft. of torque, making it the most powerful Challenger ever, Dodge's most powerful V-8 ever and the most powerful muscle car ever.
The Challenger's new 6.2-liter Supercharged Hellcat engine is also the first factory supercharged HEMI, as well as Dodge and SRT's first application of V-8 supercharger technology. For the first time in Chrysler Group history, the all-new 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT with a Hellcat engine comes standard with two key fobs -- red and black. The red key fob is the only key that can unlock the full 707 horsepower and torque potential of the Challenger SRT Hellcat engine; while the black key fob limits the driver to a reduced engine output of 500 horsepower.
In addition to the awe-inspiring 707 horsepower of the new Hellcat HEMI, the new 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat has been redesigned and totally re-engineered to be the most true-to-form muscle coupe on the market with performance-enhancing technologies inside and out, including the new TorqueFlite eight-speed automatic transmission and an all-new interior inspired by the classic 1971 Challenger.
The Dodge and SRT brands now offer the most complete lineup of muscle cars in the market, including the new 2015 Dodge Challenger SXT with its standard powerful and fuel-efficient Pentastar V-6 engine combined with the TorqueFlite eight-speed transmission that delivers 300 horsepower and an estimated 30 miles per gallon; the 2015 Dodge Challenger R/T with the high-torque 5.7-liter HEMI now paired with the TorqueFlite eight-speed or six-speed manual transmission; and the all-new 6.4-liter HEMI Challenger Scat Pack that delivers 485 horsepower and 475 lb.-ft. of torque with the TorqueFlite eight-speed or six-speed manual.
The 2015 Dodge Challenger and Challenger SRTs are built at the Brampton, Ontario, Assembly Plant and will start arriving in Dodge dealerships in the third quarter of 2014.

So is the "Hellcat" a special edition Challenger SRT or will all Challenger SRT come with the Hellcat engine? What is the price looking like for one of these? Sounds badass.

Cars coming off the showroom floor with 700+hp is crazy.
It's going to get to a point where it is going to start getting unsafe, wonder where they draw that line.

Keep in mind that the GT500 is probably about 500 lbs. lighter than the Challenger. I'm not a Dodge fan, but of the big three retro styled muscle cars, I think the Challenger looks the best, sounds the best, and has the most comfortable interior.

It's not outside the realm of possibility that we could see 1000 bhp domestics you can actualy go the showroom and buy one day, it would probably be expensive, but obtainable. How much is a Bugatti $2 million? Chevy is already bumping the ZR1 650bhp, only 11 or 12 hp, but they're responding to Dodge, and if Ford does a V8 Ecoboost Mustang, or maybe twin turbo gt500, it would be over. The current gt500 claims a top speed of at or near 200 mph. Those cars seem like a value compared to the high horsepower European counterparts, and the seats can fit my fat American Butt! Happy birthday America! Thanks for being super badass all these years.

Badass. And it sounds amazing. But I'm more excited to see how Ford responds. They really have two models to play with - a GT350 that is lighter weight, track focused vs the GT500 that is heavier, but a HP monster. I'm guessing 725HP/700lbft out of the GT500.

The Super Snake is not an OEM car. It's essentially a tuner vehicle.

they can go with a larger blower, maybe even larger displacement paired with it.
I'm excited to how the 707hp marketing number of the hellcat translates to whp. Maybe Dodge pulls a ford (think 03/04 cobra) and drastically underrates it, practically forcing Ford/Chevy to come out with something in the 750-800hp realm.
Would be nice to see a high 700hp Cobra, and a low 500hp Ecoboosted 5.0 GT

I think like most other MOPAR vehicles it looks great, will sound great, but will be a slow heavy pig. It will be the most powerful and more than likely will still lag behind the ZL1 with it's measly 580hp...LOL I'm happy to see them putting some crazy power in it, but come on, they kind of had to with all the weight it brings too right? I'm really not all surprised. Now if this car can dip into the 10s consistently I'll be happy. Oh, and come in at less than $90 fully loaded.

Well the SRT8 392 has 470 hp with a curb weight of 4,371. The hellcat will have 707 horsepower and curb weight of ~4500 pounds. 237 BHP increase. The SRT8 does low 13's stock...I don't think 237bhp increase will help it gain over 2 seconds. Slicks or not. I hope I'm wrong, as I love the styling of the car, probably the best looking and most comfortable of the three for sure. I'm just not holding my breath. I'm honestly expecting mid to high 11s on stock tires. Maybe muster an 11.4 or 11.5 on slicks. We'll see.
