    Turbo recommends for 300WHP streetable 4G64 2.4

My buddy wants to fix up his 3G Eclipse and is determined to keep the 2.4 in it. I say ditch it and grab a used EVO XIII engine/wiring/ecu setup and be happy but he's never done a build and wants to play. Typically I would think get the smallest, new design turbo to it has instant response and maximum low end. But then I have little experience on FWD cars of that power and thought maybe instant spool would cause excessive torque steer and maybe something slower might reduce torque steer and wheel spin. Recommendations on a truly streetable setup.

I think the evo8,9,10 are all capable of 350whp+ on the stock turbo with bolt on and tune AFAIK. I may be wrong though.

OP what's the budget? I'm not sure what the limits of the stock 4G64 is but I'd say 300hp is prob pushing it. Is the plan to forge the internals? If so there are a LOT of options. I ran that exact same block in my 600HP EVO 8 with forged internals and an EVO 8 4G63 DOHC head. The extra .4 displacement over the 2.0 is AWESOME. I'm assuming it's going to be a T3 turbo manifold? FWD is FWD, and a 300HP turbo is going to spool pretty quickly regardless, TQ steer will just become a way of life. No biggie unless trying to drag race it for ETs. Biggest issue will probably be engine management. What EMS will he run? Mega squirt? Not sure there are a lot of options for a 3G. Overall, that block has a lot of potential. Some people have problems putting $5-10k into a $4k car though. You could prob slap and ebay T3 kit on it with an FP 20G tubo and make 300HP with the right tuning. Not sure how long the stock motor would last though.

A stock 4g64 should be able to handle well over 300whp. The only weakness will be the pistons, and they are not really that bad. They pretty much all utilize the same rods.

Stock 16g turbo will be more then enough to reach your power goal. Want a cheap build? Just find some one getting rid of their stock evo setup. Injectors and all.

Just make sure tuning is on point. Shouldn't have to be very aggressive at all for what you want.

So, I just realized this thread was a year old, not a few days as I thought.

    Time for bed.

Honestly I have no idea he's got the car, money and no time. The engine definitely needs a rebuild so the engine was at least going to get upgraded rods and pistons. I tried to talk him into going the easy route and just getting an older EVO engine setup but for some reason he's stuck on the stocker. Not sure on the Engine management was hoping there was a way to either reflash the stock ECU with the EVO 8 config or swap in an EVO 8 ECU and retune it from there.

It's fine. It's not like we have a ton of discussion on this motor.
