918 technology trickle-down - Hybrid 911 Turbo with 700 horsepower and a hybrid Cayman coming

A recent report from MotorTrend touts a 700 horsepower hybrid 911 Turbo and a hybrid high performance Cayman model sitting above the GTS. Porsche obviously produced the 918 Spyder as a halo car and technology showcase. The hybrid technology will trickle down into the other models so MotorTrend's 'guess' is likely accurate about a hybrid 911 Turbo and Cayman although they do not support this guess with anything of substance.

Hybrid high performance models will eventually come from everyone so we can make wild guesses that will probably turn out accurate too like the successor to the 458 Italia will have hybrid technology. Regardless, if the 918 Spyder engine were added to the 911 Turbo you would get a roughly 700 horsepower all wheel drive car with instant electric torque. The insanely quick 0-60 times would improve further.

Now the Cayman is set to get a turbo four-cylinder at some point. It is possible that it will come with an electric motor as well although this is likely further down the line. Let's say Porsche dominates at Le Mans with their 919 Spyder. It is a strong possibility Porsche will want to capitalize on this victory and their first overall Le Mans victory after a 16 year absence. A special edition hybrid model would likely be pushed hard to market based on this 919 victory.

All this report boils down to is that you can expect more high performance hybrids from Porsche. That is not news. News would be if we had their specifications, release dates, and official confirmation.

Really excited for the next few years in terms of the cars they're going to release. A "GT4" Cayman, this, the turbo 4, perhaps a 968 successor, and maybe even a 918 minus the hybrid tech, or a scaled down version of it, to compete with the Aventador/F12. And the new Panamera eventually, as well as the new, much lighter Cayenne. Porsche just kicks ass all the way around.

Porsche is on a hell of a roll and they are managing to expand their lineup while producing enthusiast models.

I hope they take all of BMW's former customers.

Porsches are called "dentist beetles" where I come from. You see them everywhere. Great cars, but not appealing to me personally due to the never-changing design.

I agree the 911 is a bug on steroids. But Porsche is doing exciting things elsewhere in the lineup. The 911 does not hold too much appeal for me these days.
