Tuned BMW F10 M5 versus tuned Porsche Panamera Turbo highway roll on to 170+ miles per hour
The BMW F10 M5 is the faster of these two luxury performance cars stock for stock especially when it comes to roll on and top end runs. This is clearly evident in Road and Track's luxury super sedan shootout from earlier in the month. The Panamera Turbo is heavier by about 140 pounds (all wheel drive comes with a price) and it takes about two and a half seconds longer to hit 130 miles per hour from a stop. Does an engine tune change things?
No, not really. Both cars have PP-Performance tunes so it is not like the tuner has something at stake in this race either way. The Panamera Turbo (wow those underbody lights are German rice! Is Fast and the Furious 1 still popular overseas?) gets a healthy lead. It almost seems as if the M5 was in the wrong gear with how right off the bat the Panamera gets a couple car lengths.
The M5 starts to reel it in at 130 miles per hour and by 170 it puts car lengths on the Panamera Turbo. Traction should not be an issue for the F10 M5 at these starting speeds and at this power level so why the M5 gets pulled early is anyone's guess.
Regardless, the M5 shows a significant top end advantage and on the highway a tuned (and really even stock F10 M5) has nothing to fear from a Panamera Turbo with a tune. Porsche's new V8 engine family can't come soon enough.

Nice run! F10-s are brutal! Raced one the the other day! He was bone stock! We did couple of first gear 20mph rolls! I did manage to put one car on him right off the bat but i still felt his brutal acceleration!

How could an RS6 "stomp" an M5...they can't even go around corners properly. Also, the interior is just not up to the level of the M5/E63.
Seems almost every journo complaint about the M5 is it's size and weight, and because it's bigger than they want (despite being lighter than all its competitors), they decide to mark it down because its not what they want it to be and declare whatever else in the comparison as being better even when it/they are not at all. I'm biased, but I've seen an RS7 and RS6 try to go around corners. Also, the M is faster. And doesn't understeer like a pig. The Audis are pretty though - I'll give them that.
