RUF 997 RT12 versus Lamborghini LP640 Murcielago highway pull
It is pretty rare to actually get an exotic owner to do a pull on the highway. The RUF RT12 camera car in the video managed to coax a run out of this LP640 Murcielago. It looks like they line up fairly evenly and the Murcielago takes the hit with the RUF RT12 then trying to run the Lamborghini down. The Porsche is not able to as the LP640 stretches its legs and pulls away rather decisively before eventually letting off the gas.
The LP640 as a reminder is based on the Murcielago and features a revised naturally aspirated V12 increased to 6.5 liter of displacement (from 6.2) and a higher 8000 rpm redline. Output is rated at 631 horsepower. The car is capable of roughly low 11's in the 1/4 at around the 127 mile per hour range. Yes, a very stout car.
On paper the RUF RT12 should match up well considering Road and Track tested it to an 11.6 @ 127 1/4 mile. That would be the 3.8 liter version with a stated 685 horsepower. The trap speed shows the race should be even but the LP640 top end and jump can not be overcome by the RUF. There also is no way to truly know if the camera car is a real RUF RT12 or which edition of RT12 although it clearly is a turbocharged 997 Porsche.
Whatever it is the LP640 just flat out moves on the highway.

That v12 sounds great. It's nice to hear a naturally aspirated v12 run through the gears for a change instead of a turbo v8.
