Evolve Automotive presents Insights into ECU Tuning - A look at what goes into a custom E46 M3 S54 tune
There is a big difference between the ability to simply flash a BMW ecu and the ability to adjust custom parameters in the software (such as for different cams, fuels, elevations, Alpha-N, etc.). Really, even BimmerBoost can deliver software to flash an ECU but that does not mean BimmerBoost is capable of high quality custom BMW tuning. Many so called tuners out there are just flashing files they have obtained from various sources some of which are shady to say the least. Some steal files and some buy files but very few actually develop their own files to flash.
That is what separates the men from the boys in tuning. Modern BMW ecu's are incredibly complex and what you see here with the E46 M3 is even more difficult with the newer cars. A tune that is a value is a value for a reason. Simply copy and pasting a canned tune does not require much skill other than knowing how to fire up software, connect a cable, and click a button.
The video below is an interesting watch for those interested in the topic of ECU tuning. BMW these days is doing all it can to lock tuners out of the cars. The more difficult tuning BMW's becomes the more you want to go with an experienced tuner who knows what they are doing.

Evolve are very cool, down to earth, and knowledgeable dudes. Looking forward to getting my tune from them once this god damn snow goes away on the east coast.
