Rod Bearings were ready to give up the ghost.
Well a few months back I was looking into replacing my rod bearings as I would be doing a few HPDE events this year. The WPC rod bearing group buy popped up, and I couldn't resist getting in on that.
A little history of the car. I picked up the car in Sept 2013. Before purchasing ran the vin with BMWNA, and they gave me the number to the dealership that serviced the car. When I called them they had informed me that the rod bearings were replaced at 20K miles. The car currently has 163k miles on it.
This Tuesday I dropped the car off at Max Psi to have the rod bearings replaced with the WPC treated stock bearings, and arp bolts. Now keep in mind the previous owner said he changed the oil every 5K miles.
Wow am I glad I went ahead, and replaced them.

GG if you don't mind me asking, what did they charge you? Did they have any issues with just replacing the bearings ?

Wow a few of those are in seriously bad shape. Good call.
Fundamentally is the bearing issue on NA S motors a matter of improper clearance? Wrong recommended oil weight? Generally weak/poor oiling? Curious…[I]E88 N54 w stuff

So it’s just like water pumps…they fail and fail, yet BMW doesn’t appear to make necessary revisions in terms of clearance?
The relatively poor oil circulation can somewhat be excused just due to economics (expensive to really set up a nice oiling system in a mass produced street car).[I]E88 N54 w stuff

$499 + core for the pump. $$$ well spent, esp if the pan is down.

There is a group buy on treated bearings on m3forum.net 293 shipped. http://www.m3forum.net/m3forum/showthread.php?t=468185
WPC treated - GB - any part
I have had a fair amount of emails asking about the GB we did for the WPC bearings. As a close friend of mine wants a set for his Z4 I am posting this again for those who missed the first time.
*Please remember I am not a business and I am doing this as a fellow enthusiasts. So please be respectful and patient. The last GB we had 24 of us buy bearings and went smoothly accept for USPS taking 12 days in a few cases.*
This time around I will manage the order for bearings and any other part you want WPC treated. This includes cams, gears, bearings, other. If you want anything other than OE parts please post it here so we can get other to buy in. I can't get discounts for people if only 1 person wants something.
Before I go through the headache again of doing this I need 10 people minimum to join in. Please ask friends from other forums to partake if they wish. I am posting the kits we had last time.
--------PM if you want to get in on another WPC run and I will send payment details. Deadline for all this is 2/28/14. ------
