    Hardcore F82 M4 on the table after all to celebrate BMW's 100 years? Roughly 3000 pound M4 GTS/CSL model coming for 2016?

    Someone at BMW needs to make up their mind. BMW is celebrating its centennial in 2016. Over 100 years for any company is a rather big deal and one would think BMW intends to celebrate. What better way to do so than with a hardcore special edition model celebrating the glory that is the Ultimate Driving Machine? Recent reports state that is exactly what BMW has planned but this flies in the face of conflicting earlier reports where BMW directly stated there would be no M4 CSL model.

    Here is what BMW stated earlier, "There are no plans at the moment to build a lightweight CSL version of the M4, but there weren't any plans to do the last generation CSL either." That is completely correct, there were no plans for an E92 M3 CSL yet the hardcore M3 GTS came about later. No matter what it is called whether it be CSL, GTS, etc., BMW is at least leaving the door ajar for a hardcore, lightweight, and track focused M4.

    Should this car come about it would weigh in the 3086 pound or 1400 kilogram range. The F82 M3 is already lighter than expected so where further weight would be shaved to this degree is something for the engineers to figure out. Expect at least 100 kilograms less than the F82 M4 which is currently stated to be in the 3306 pound range. Expect the car to seat two, have a rear seat delete, and a roll cage. A slight power bump would of course be included just as the E46 M3 CSL and E92 M3 GTS showed.

    Keep in mind, this is all unconfirmed. The report detailing all this information cites an unnamed source at BMW. When an unnamed source with unconfirmed information is cited BimmerBoost is leery as Autoblog already showed us what unnamed BMW sources with conflicting information are worth and that would be just about nothing.

    Is this just a publication reaching for buzz, links, and traffic again? On one hand you have BMW on record stating there will be no M4 CSL model although they do say things may change. On the other you have an unnamed supposed M executive providing details on such a model which would already have to be in the planning stages. Where is the truth? Somewhere in the middle. One thing is certain this car would be a great way to celebrate BMW's history.

    But kudos to BMW if they build it (but will most like only be sold overseas).

    Would be even more awesome if it isn't priced like the GTS.

    Sounds like BMW is gonna follow the 911 Turbo tier system

    911 Turbo --> Normal M3/M4
    911 GT2 --> M3/M4 Competition Pack
    911 GT2 RS --> M3/M4 GTS/CSL
    2018 Mercedes-Benz E63 S AMG (W213)

    Eurocharged Canada Stage 1 ECU, TCU and CPC Tune

    Counter-point if it comes to the USA unlike the GTS.

    BMW made a decision about this long ago. Decisions are made seven years in advance prior to sale. And the E82 1M is not included. A decision was made about a car like this long ago.

    Except if this one comes to the largest M market, it would be as a "thank you, for helping us make lots of money". For a 100 year anniversary, expect BMW to bring out lots of surprises.

    And expect an M-DCT transmission. As the E46 M3 CSL had SMG III, and the E92 M3 GTS had M-DCT as some people have stated it would have a manual. And it will be limited production, meaning very expensive. In coupe and sedan form as well.

    But seven years did not pass in between BMW saying no to an E92 M3 CSL and then green lighting the M3 GTS?

    On a model that already exists doing a specialty model on that same platform does not take as much planning or development as a whole new generation.

    They should have named the four door the M4 and left the M3...the M3. Makes more sense I think.

    Yes but they are trying to make odd sedans and even coupes. Apparently people are too stupid today to understand the M3 can come in more than one flavor.

    I really don't get it but I think it's because Audi, Mercedes, and BMW are all trying to slot neatly against each other. I guess Audi started it with the A5 but now Mercedes is ditching names like CLK and CL to have coupe versions on the same name.

    I think they are just changing things to piss me off personally.

    It doesn't surprise me BMW is doing this. They aren't going to make everything public........

    They could change out the rear glass with lexon or whatever for weight, seats, rotors, exhaust...etc

    I think the "no plans for the last CSL" part is referring to the E46 M3 CSL which wasn't planned from the beginning. As far as I know they didn't start working on it at all until after the E46 M3 was on the market, that's why the CSL came out four years later. This is a good thing to my mind, instead of designing both and being tempted to handicap the base M3, this way they focus on making the M3 as great as possible and then have a few more years to find ways to make it more hardcore.

    I really think the decision hasn't even been made. A car like this is decided MAYBE a year before launch. If it is very very special maybe a little earlier, but not now.
