W212 E63 AMG S wagon runs [email protected] and the SLS AMG Black Series [email protected] in MotorTrend's World's Greatest Drag Race Part 3
While having all this impressive hardware available to them for the Best Driver's Car competition MotorTrend managed to line up the cars for they call the World's Greatest Drag Race 3. The name is over the top but with hardware including Aston Martin Vanquish, Audi R8 V10 Plus, Bentley Continental GT Speed, BMW M6, Ford Focus ST, Jaguar F-Type V8 S, Mercedes-Benz AMG E63 wagon, Mercedes SLS AMG Black Series, Nissan GT-R Track Edition, Porsche 911 Carrera 4S, Porsche Cayman S, and SRT Viper lining these cars up is almost mandatory.
Keep in mind the E63 AMG S is a wagon. The sedan will be quicker as it is lighter. Still, an [email protected] is absurd performance for a wagon. This points to the all wheel drive AMG S sedan to be capable of mid 11's out of the box. That also likely means easy 10's with a tune. Incredible? You bet.
The SLS Black Series finishes second as the GTR wins the drag race by virtue of its all wheel drive. It loses out by a tenth but it has a higher trap speed at just under five miles per hour over the GTR's 125.1. The SLS Black Series is the fastest car in the competition.

I love that wagon! It's insanely fast for a "wagon". If I could afford it, I would be my next family vehicle.

I wish they would eliminate obvious weak links. Focus ST didn't even have a chance and I wish they would do a 1/2 mile or 1 mile next time.

Last year they had the FR-S too. Another waste if you ask me, when you compare them with super cars.

But seriously the AMG Wagon is sick. I can run with a Zo6 corvette or a Gt500 and smoke just about every american muscle car that is "bad ass" and still have room for the kids, my five sacks go groceries and 3 duffle bags. I'll take that any day! AMG has made it very nice in selecting a car for the family man that really wants to go fast!
This is the explanation they give about the car selection.

The crazy thing is that the Z06 Vette ran a faster time than the SLS BS by about 2 seconds on that track, which is insane for an "old" car. Can't wait to see what the next Z06 will do. Hopefully GM will introduce it in time for the next best drivers competition.

Forget the Viper, forget the Bimmer and forget the GTR. This AMG S is an animal! I can't wait to see what the sedan will do. Unless you are an enthusiast that lives on a track majority of your time, there is no reason to drive something else.

Lamborghini Aventador 10.8 @ 132.3
McLaren MP4-12C 10.8 @ 130.7
Nissan GT-R Black Edition 11.1 @ 124.8
Ford Shelby GT500 11.6 @ 125.7
Porsche 911 Carrera S 120.0 @ 117.1
Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 12.1 @ 117.4
Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Black Series 12.1 @ 117.6
Jaguar XKR-S, 12.5 @ 118.1
Subaru BRZ 14.9 @ 94.4
This year compared to last year is quite a difference. Two cars in the tens with last year and a hint in the 11s. Where as this year not 10s and a bunch of them running 11s.
Which car to own at what price it'd be a tough decision!
Will say this ford Focus ST > Subaru BRZ!
