Actually surprised the SLS was so close, I guess driver error made a big difference, but that only seemed to be the case in one pull.

Bone stock Mercedes SLS AMG versus a 900+ horsepower built motor twin turbo 427 LSX fourth gen Camaro

On paper, this is a huge mismatch. In one corner you have the SLS AMG which is a very fast car and has been proving itself against stout competition. It's 563 horsepower M159 V8 and dual clutch transmission transmission are no slouch even in stock form but here it is going up against a twin turbo built motor 427 cubic inch LSX V8 stuffed into a fourth generation Camaro. There is what you call fast and then there is really fast.

The Camaro features a 94mm single turbo (BIG) at only 13 psi so it could be cranked up way further than this. It is estimated that 13 psi is good for the ~900 horsepower range. It also has a built T56 manual transmission to handle the torque. So, yep, it's a beast.

To no surprise, the SLS gets walked and walked quickly. The race it at elevation with DA estimated at 3000 feet. So, the naturally aspirated SLS is at a further disadvantage versus the turbocharged Camaro. One thing the SLS shows thow is at lower speeds once it is time to shift the dual clutch transmission does a nice job of mitigating the power advantage. Once at higher speeds though and spending more time in gear with less frequent shifts, it's quickly over and the power disparity shows.

Sure, this may be a pointless race to some. It does however show the difference between a fast factory car and just how fast an aftermarket built car can be these days. It would be interesting to see the Camaro at full strength, whatever horsepower level that may be.

Thank you to @AWD75 for the video.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. It's obviously built for performance. What are you going to get that will hold power better than an LSX?

For sure every person has their own taste, but for me, that camaro is not my cup of tea. Anyway, i still think that sls did pretty good against the disadvantages. I dont think that maro has 900hp tho...

    The SLS definitely did well.

There is no reason that Camaro can't have way more power. 13 psi with a 90mm turbo on an LSX block? Heh.
