Ya know how some women are attracted to the bad boys that only bring them drama and heartache? I swear I have the same affliction, but with cars...

I have to agree with Dzenno and even venture to say that the N54 platform is FINALLY coming out of its infancy stage and entering its teenager years when it comes to software tuning.
When we get to the point where we have tuners that completely erase the ECU logic and reprogram completely new algorithms, then we can call the N54 scene mature enough. From all the things I've lost,

Absolutely! Think about it... The DME actively adjusts each individual cylinder timing advance and each individual injector pulses on the go. It absolutely knows what exhaust pulse is coming out of which cylinder.
What I am curious to find out is at what stage are the ProEFI guys at with this. From all the things I've lost,
I miss my mind the most!

Well, the proefi being a full standalone, they can create whatever the hell they want
what stage they're up to? *shrug*
will they be able to do it? Of course
i'm more worried about whether or not they're still progressing, there hasn't really been much info on it for some time
i know a lot of people.. They get evo x, their first mod is a standalone so they don't have to deal with factory ecu headaches.. Same story with a skyline or supra, if you plan on big mods with any of them, the factory ecu will cause more pain in the long run - the n54 will probably be the same
with the amount of time effort that's gone into trying to tune the factory ecu, surely full standalone's could be (near) up and running?

I don't believe the Pro EFI is going to be a full standalone. I doubt it's going to be able to interface with all of the other modules necessary to run the car by itself. Even in the HPF M3's I believe it is just used as a piggyback on the factory DME.

They've said the N54 ProEFI (believe they said it'll be a ProEFI 112) will be a complete standalone (strictly controlling engine related functions & traction control) but the OEM DME will remain functional so you don't lose Comfort Access, Dash Display & other distinct BMW features. The 48 is a PNP, but if you're considering the more "affordable" ProEFI you might as well buy one of established options (COBB, JB4, etc).
