I want to sleeve my m54 block.. to make it fit S54 pistons(87mm)! Is it possible to use sleeves as large in this block (M54B30)?
Or, can i use even larger pistons? What is the nikasil-block limit for piston dimensions ?
It will stay NA.. no boost!
Sorry.. english is not my native language

Hello, welcome.
I don't have much knowledge on sleeving the M54. But... @PEI330Ci does.

Sorry.. i meant that i saw that thread where PEI330Ci was commenting on sleeving M54 ..it hadn`t any topics about sleeving possibilities (need to fit a sleeve big enough that fits S54 piston)
Cannot send PEI330Ci a private message.. someone keeps telling me, i don`t have enough fame or what not to send anyone a message

Is there a reason why you want to use S54 pistons?

Here is a pic of my M54B30,you can see there is lots of material between the walls and you can also see the iron cylinder liners it has stock.
It might even work to give it an overbore to 87mm from 84mm.
The liners are quite thick,so taking 1.5mm off might work fine, given no boost is applied.

Have you been able to find a cylinder head gasket with a circumference greater than 85mm? I have been in contact with a number of vendors for custom head gaskets, and even at a suggested price of $500 each, it was a "no go" for short production run.
Then there is the issue of the rods....which would need to be custom @ $3k per set from reputable source.
I think the OP needs to state his budget before we suggest things like $400 per cylinder bore sleeving for 87mm pistons....Rep Points > Posts since 2010

An Alpina 3.3 head gasket might work,as they have larger pistons,IIRC 86mm or 86.5mm.
Rods I would try to use either M54 or M52,whatever is suitable.
If no stock stuff fits, then it needs custom ones.
Overall,I think a S54 is a better solution,as the money dropped into a n/a M54 will be more than getting a nice S54.

am i the only one thinking, if you were to go through the effort of ripping your block apart, sleeving it, and putting in s54 rods, wouldn't it make financial sense to just put a s54 in your car?

PEI330Ci - Im holding S54(stroke-91)crank with conrods
S54 psitons(87)
S50evo pistons(86,4)
M54B30(stroke-89,6)crank with rods and its block ..thought that it would be nice to make M54 block fit S54 pistons, crank&rods.
There`s no certain budget.. I have several smaller projects also and invest my time and money into this S54 when I have something left over (no rush).. but yes, its rather limited anyway
S62R do you know anybody in Finland, who can sleeve my (M54) block.. if it turns out to be sensible to sleeve this block in the first place ?
Yes, finding the head casket might become an issue
