Blown turbos Time for upgraded twins :D Sticky pick me ;)

Well i did it. NBD im not upset, talk about a smoke show though.. wow..
i expected the stock ones to fail sooner than later, shame bcuz other than the weak stock turbos the car was in heaven with the boost.

cars down for a overhaul. New turbos, meth(pre turbo), and wheels and radials bcuz i couldnt keep any traction period.

Anyway heres some logs just before it happened, unfortunately the laptop was dead so i dont have a log from the time of impact nor a CSV.

and heres a vid the morning after..

So Heres my question Do i go RBs or wait for Vargas stage 2s?
I want useful comments and reasoning for each opinion Thanks!

Yes, but it in no way shape or form was the fault of the tune. The car was running great as you can see in the logs. It was me pushing the limits of the stock turbos and everyone who knows me knows ive been expecting this anyway lol. Didnt expect it to be so sudden, but hey beggers cant be chosers

If you've gotta have turbos now go for the RBs, they're proven to make good power. If you don't mind waiting a couple months then wait to see how the VTT turbos perform and then make your decision.

That's on G5? What's your PWM look like? You aren't hitting target... How did the let go? Were they smoking at all before? Did yours whine when cold/warm. You aren't running any more boost than I am... scary. Click here to enlarge although where is the boost taper????

I'd get VTT since he seems to be in touch with customers and is offering upgraded thrust parts.

Since you actually visit the track, go single turbo and post results so we can get some feedback not buttered with BS.

well, thats A LOT more smoke than i ever had.

    you have 3 options:

    RB's now
    Vishnu Single now
    VTT possibly, sometime.

I would LOVE to see an unbiased and REAL review of the BT, but i would never support where its coming from. plus, it doesnt seem like its a real option since tuning is STILL no correct.

so, with that said, how long can you wait?

Unfortunately stuff breaks and the harder we push it the more likely failures are. Click here to enlarge

Logs look clean. Some under targeting up top so perhaps they were unable to keep up. Too bad your turbos went before you were able to get some better times in on them but on the replacements, you have a few options:

    1) RBs. Proven 500rw setup. I run them and love them.
    2) FFTEC single turbo. Unproven in automatics but in theory should be faster than RBs, at the expense of low end performance. They cost double.
    3) New OEM turbos. Not much fun... but if you are happy with the current power output (remember more power = more $$$ down the line for a trans rebuild, maybe a short block, etc) it can be a good option.

I know Vargas is working on some RB like turbos but I have not seen any data on them yet. So at this point at least it's just a future product out there. I would avoid the other turbo options (wheel only upgrades, etc). Theoretically ASR is another option but they are a bit shady in my book.

I'm still confused why there's no taper on the boost and why you couldn't hit target. Definitely keep it up!

because one log is a Map 6 I made and the other is map 7 on g5 which has less taper. I fell off because my turbos were going, then "went" lol

yeah, the car was happy, it's always been a strong car. likely I'll stick to twins bcuz I love the way the car runs and don't want to change it other than adding power. Should be seeing very low 11s or better next time I hit the strip with new turbos, meth and radials Click here to enlarge

no whining that I noticed at least. car has 33k miles. I'm just mean to those bad chickens lol. I felt a lot of lag in them all of a sudden, then it felt they came on strong but then they were no more. It felt like sudden low boost/limp mode and I saw an absurd amount of smoke so I pulled over, turned her off and popped the hood. I could see at least one of the turbos glowing red in the night.

went out to look at my car lol.. damn it looks good Click here to enlarge anyway laptop was fresh so i pulled the codes. Just 3100 low boost and 2AAF fuel pump plausibility. Ive always had the 2AAF on and off so NBD. She fires right up but smokes like a chimney in the winter. Gonna start ordering $#@! up for the rebuild soon.. Meth, radials, rims, turbos etc. Gonna be exciting and will be stupid fast when its done.

I have a spare set of OEM twins, but I can't let them go cheap, cuz, I have over 100K miles on my originals (still putting out like champs). I can sell them to you for $700, shipped. Sorry bout the price, but that's how it goes.

It's interesting to me that both turbos blew at the same time. Were you blowing smoke on one side for a while before the other side let go from trying to compensate?
