Hyundai
I would like to touch on a subject that has come to my attention recently. How the modern definition for a 'car' ought to be, the epitomy of value for the money being todays Hyundai's.
I was in the market for a 4 door sedan, and there tons to choose from. I made a trade matrix to compare all cars of this class.
But the point I want to make is, there really is nothing to compare the Hyuandai's to. For the money, they absolutely $#@!, crap, puke and piss on every other car make bar none. I can't even begin to describe how dissapointed I am with european car manufacturers especially BMW and Mercedes for putting a pricetag of 100k on a car that Hyundai can build for 40 or 50k.
Why am I so mad?
Because I test drove a Hyundai Sonata 2.0 Turbo. The car is a basic family car with nav and leather, nothing extremely fancy. Wrong.
At 274 horsepower and 259 foot-lbf of torque this car can move. It weighs 3380 lbs, so it feels light when accelerating too. How about safety, 5 stars on all crash tests. That's right, this Korean can is SAFER than any car in its class. I couldn't beleive it, but you can get a nasty stereo system with it too, 380 watt with dedicated sub and amp optional. The panoramic moonroofs are sexy, the eco mode lets you get 35+ mpg on the highway and it does come proper paddle shifters. All this for 26-28k.
My BMWs premium sound system sounds like dogsh1t compared to this thing, and that car costs twice as much.
What I am trying to say is Hyundai is officially the best car brand in the world right now, i don't care what your opinion is. Until you actually go test drive an Equus 5.0 Spec-R you have no legitimate opinion. For 50k you get maybach-like luxury, I $#@! you not. The Equus is ridiculous as well, for 50k, steal.
Now performance-wise, true they don't make the best sports car. In fact they only make one real sports car and that's the genesis. But that's not the topic of this discussion, the topic is every single other car that Hyundai makes will take a heaping $#@! on any BMW or MB in its class. Don't believe me? Go test drive one.

Hyundai certainly has some of the best designs on the road right now. It's amazing when you consider that Subaru $#@! the bed on a lot of their next-gen designs. Compare that to Hyundai and they killed it!

After I test drove the Sonata 2.0 Turbo, I got back into my 135 and had a huge "WTF" moment. Like, is that car seriously better than this 44k dollar BMW? It seriously is. That car had more options, more features, more reliability, BETTER WARRANTY and was cheaper than the 135i or 4 door 335 or 328.

^ mods is a different thing. I understand that the 335 responds better to mods. But from a cost-value standpoint, car to car the Hyundais are unbeatable by a long shot. We cant start throwing mods in there, because then the discussion starts to deviate from the intent, which is you pay for a car, what do you get? Not necessarily what you can do. I am focusing on daily driving semi-performance luxury comfortable affordable cars, and Hyundai got me so hard right now.

Hyundai drivers are definitely getting bolder as they are more frequently trying to instigate street races with me in my 335 and M3.

My friends and I were just having this discussion as I came across your thread. Hyundai certainly deserves their props for their efforts these past couple years. I had a Sonata for a rental a couple weeks ago. Certainly nothing to be ashamed of. I had no problems rolling in that thing. After the nightmare I'm going through with my M5, I'll likely get the hell away from BMW for a while. Who knows where I'll end up??

My wife really wanted a Sonota. After test driving it I told her to go buy it. It's an amazing car. Too bad the salesman sucked and never even appraised her trade in. I went the next day and bought her her 5th straight Nissan. 3.5sr Altima is pretty nice but I hate that stupid cvt transmission. It removes all of the torque from that car.
On a different note I went test drove a genisis 2.0r spec and was very unimpressed. I heard about some big turbo cars putting up decent numbers but I just couldn't see it. It was SO slow.2016 340xi AT

I tried the Nissan 3.5 too. For the money the Hyundai $#@!s on it. That is fact, not opinion. Ignore Hyundai's attempt at making a sportscar, that was just a feeler, watch them come out with something stupid awesome in a year or two though.

Wow - that's more than impressive. Would you say handling/braking is on par with your 135 also? I know this isn't about the sport-nature of the car, more just comparing the two cars - just curious how good the Sonata is in this department also.
You are now the second person that has "told" me this - I have a friend who is into cars, and hates anything non-American. However, Hyundai is the best damn car made in his opinion. He told me the exact same thing (sorta) - until you drive one, your opinion means nothing.

No thread yet but I'll post something up when I get it all resolved. Hopefully will be all good here in a few weeks. Its been down since the end of July, hence the lack of post from me with my own car. I love that thing, but man it's takin me for a ride here recently $$$$$$$. I really need to get rid of it when It's running again.

I wouldnt say braking and handlnig is on par with a 135, of course not. But for the money you get more car than a 135, a lot more. To option a 4 door 335 to have the same or similar features as the Hyundai it would cost 50k. Some of that price is offset by better handling and acceleration, but if you think about it, stock for stock; the 2.0t is 274 hp and the 335 is 300 hp. I just cant justify the price of a 4 door 335 anymore.

Competition makes everyone better and in the end the consumer wins, BMW is focusing on new 2 series, 1, etc, they recognize the 3 series won't cut it anymore as thier entry level BMW.
You should have included the ford fusion in your comparison. Ford is coming on strong as well, the latest fusion is great looking and the new mustang has great performance. Reliability? Absolutely....my job requires me to drive a lot. They gave me a company car, so I have a 2010 fusion, bought new in late 2009, has 115,016 miles on it and not one issue. I beat the hell out of this car, change the oil every 7500 miles and keep rolling. My front brakes lasted 75k miles and rears still haven't been changed. Overall it's a great car with good looks, powerful v6, Bluetooth, sunroof, and Sirius, getting 30mpg and costs 23k.
I agree, Hyundai has thier $#@! together!

Didn't Hyundai just get busted for making false mpg claims.
They have to now compensate owners.

My gf has a 2012 Genesis Coupe 2.0T. Every time I visit her, I am usually the one driving it. Honestly, it is a very fun car to drive! It's sporty, comfy, looks pretty darn good, and the gas mileage is incredible. She's put about 8000 miles thus far without any complaints. It really does make for a great sport and daily driving car. It might not be the fastest, nor the best handling, but still, it's fun.
As many of you said, Hyundai has really come a long over the past few years! They are designing some great looking cars with performance and reliability to back it up. On top of that, I love that their warranty is also 10 years/100,000 miles!2002 E46 M3 6MT | Jet Black . Black Nappa | My GermanBoost Build Thread

Hyundai has definitely has done a great job since early 2000's. Kia's are even better IMO, what they do is getting cars from Hyundai and making them better.

Hyundai has def come a long ways...even in 2003 my grandparents had an Elantra...I used to take that thing all over the place, it was simple, rode nice, got great mpgs and fit and finish was pretty good, especially compared to some of the domestic cars of the time. I havent sat in any of the new ones today, but if they made some kinda SUV/truck that wasnt the $#@!ty Santa Fe (last generation had so many issues with rust) , I would look into it...
