Cobb Stage 2 Protune by EFI Logics
I may be one of the few who have tried almost all the popular tunes out there. In the 4 years that I've owned my car I've had Procede V3, GIAC, Jb4 and now Cobb (in that order). I've always wanted to stick with a flash because I feel its the proper way to tune this car and Cobb really has everything I'm looking for. The ease of install, excellent support, cool/functional AP device, and custom mapping ability are some of the many things I like about Cobb.
My car is a 2007 335i, 6MT, 52k miles
Performance Mods:
Helix V1 intercooler
AR 3 inch downpipes
Vanguard Version 2 catback exhaust
BMS DCI
AR Stg 1 oil cooler
AWE Blow off valves
Quaiffe diff
While the OTS cobb maps are quite good, the car has still always felt "flat" to me when I compare it to the JB4. I waited for ATR to come out and quickly decided it was over my head and decided to get the car Protuned. About a month ago, I called EFI Logics and booked a date/time for them to protune my 335. EFI Logics worked for me because I wanted my car protuned on the dyno and they were the closest Cobb tuning location to my house (North NJ) that seemed to have a lot of experience with the N54 from what I've read on the other forum.
I would like to say, I really respect all the info Dzenno has given this community and would have loved to try a protune from him but unfortunately he is to far from me (Rockville MD) and I didn't want anything but a dyno derived Protune map.
Anyways, I wanted to start a thread and share with the community my experience at EFI Logics.....
First of all, the EFI Logics shop is a top notch shop and has a professional crew. Chris at EFI is a great guy and he discussed with me what I was looking for with my car, a little bit about how he would protune it and really made the map based on my feedback. They had a lot of really nice WRX, STI's, EVO's and even a EVO 10 that a customer uses for racing. Overall it was a awesome experience and Chris worked hard on the dyno until the car was just right.
Here are some pics I snapped of my car on his dyno...
And here are the results !!!!
It was pretty hot on the day of my Protune, 88 degrees, not sure if that makes much difference.
The car made 339 whp and 365 wtq on the Cobb OTS stg 2 + FMIC map
With the Stg2+ Protune, the car made 380 whp and 404 wtq, on 93 oct pump. A 41 whp and a 39 wtq gain!!!
I would have loved to do a baseline run on this dyno but I wasn't about to go from FBO back to stock just for these results. Chris has a database of dyno's on EFI Logic's website and incase your wondering, a stock 335i with just a AFE intake put down 275whp and 279wtq on the same dyno.
I am very happy with the results and the car runs really well after this protune. For anyone that hasn't been protuned yet, you don't know what your missing. If you own a Cobb AP, you NEED to be protuned! The driveability of the car has completely changed. Gone is the "flat feeling" i had with the OTS cobb map, the car now has lots of tq in almost any rpm and it feels like it builds boost twice as fast as the OTS map did. This protune really transformed the car. Overall I'm extremely happy I got a protune and Chris at EFI was great. This will definitly hold me over until I get bored and decide to upgrade to Rb's

Thats awesome Bob, Glad to hear your happy. I cant believe youve been through so many tunes. I remember it like last week I was telling you to dump the procede
I bet the car feel amazing, all the way through. I would stake my rep your well within 400hp in better weather. Our current conditions are crap for performance right now

Hah yup, dumping the procede was a good move....
The weather right now is brutal, I can't wait till this weekend because it should be in the 60's at night.
E85 is interesting, i'll be watching closely from the sidelines as people pioneer the use of it on this platform.

Your Stg 2+ numbers are very similar to mine. I'm looking forward to PTF's etune. I'll be getting another dyno once I'm etuned and we can compare e-pen15es

Wow those are some great numbers, congrats! I agree, EFI Logics is great! I get my STI worked on and tuned by them and they are very helpful and don't cut any corners.

Nice numbers! Cobb makes a great product...they essentially took over the STi market when they released their accessport.
Car is very nice looking - like the debadge and the wheels.

Not for nothing but if a stock n54 make 270 on that dyno and you made 340 with stage 2 aggressive then there was simply something wrong with the tune to begin with. With a 270 baseline 380 is about what everyone should expect out of OTS maps.

I didn't have a stg2 agg tune as my base OTS map. It was stg 2 plus FMIC. Also, that stock 335 dyno I referenced was from a car that was dyno-Ed on march 1st under much more favorable conditions. Regardless, comparing two different cars isn't very accurate.
With the timing he added and fuel, the car responds so much quicker than the ots maps, it feels more alive. When I look at the log of this run and compare it to the typical ots agg map, the boost isn't much different but the fuel and timing are.

The original OTS was stg 2 plus FMIC (sport) a older v3.01 map....EFI's map is custom and he told me it doesn't matter what version he starts with as a base since it's his own map.

Just a fyi...Looking at the dyno database on EFI's website, a bone stock 135 did 253 whp and 267 wtq on this dyno in Feb 2012

Super solid gains, makes me only more excited when Jake (PTF) operates on my car for my FBO E85 map
Incredible that there was another 40 WHP + WTQ left on the table with just pump gas (NO meth), 400 WHP is looking a lot more realistic now w/ just a bolted-up motor & stock snails2018 Mercedes-Benz E63 S AMG (W213)
