    RB turbo dyno testing today

As some of you know my stock turbos started blowing oil awhile ago and I’ve been searching for an alternative to putting new stock ones on.As luck would have it, RB had a set ready to go so I jumped all over it. Surprise! Click here to enlarge

All I can say is these things feel awesome. I’ve been running around 17-18psi on the street on meth and pump and its great. Time was limited on the dyno and I wanted to see what she would do in race trim. That’s 20psi and race gas. So I had BMS set me up with some settings and I did a few runs. The first couple of runs got messed up as the ignition coil signal was not secure and the dyno would stop recording. After they moved it I got a couple runs at ~20psi and then raised the boost up a touch to ~21psi, just to see how much room was left. At 21psi I actually hit the JB3 safety limiter at around 5800rpm and the dyno operator let off (oops!) but I think you all can see these turbos can hold a lot more than ~21psi if you want. The torque curve is nice and flat and air/fuel is spot on. I am probably going to keep it at ~20psi now on race days until I get bored. The JB3 log reads a touch higher than a mechanical gauge I tested and this is the log of the ~20psi run. Baseline is on map 0 and meth off but still on RB turbos and race gas.
    My mods are: RB Turbo's-of course| JB3 2.0|BMS DCI|Stett w/synapse|Coolingmist Meth|RissRacing DP's|Helix FMIC|RPI Ram Air scoops|Rissracing OilCatch Can|Wavetrac LSD
Special thanks to Rob for helping me get in to these a little early, allowing us to get going. Big Thaks to Terry for helping me get the tuning setup right. Now to find a way to shave 300+# off my car and start doing some tracktesting. Click here to enlarge :burnrubber:

nice man, looks like some great numbers. 3k rpm near max torque is great, cant wait to see how my dynos compare. surprised these drop off 50+ hp at high rpm (over 6k), kinda looks like the stock drop off. i wanna compare my high rpm numbers as well. so this specific dyno was on racegas at 21 psi with meth? what were the run conditions btw?

i am the first to be running these, its the set off of RB's car.

    ambient temps were 91*
boost taper is set to drop off, i asked to be a little more conservative for this as im hesitant these days. if you follow the thread on N54, you can see that these can easily hold much more boost to redline, just didn't need to do it for the dyno today.

they are also capable of handling a lot more boost, i just didn't want to be the first to test, not today anyay Click here to enlarge

Well congratulations, so you are the first.

This is all complete? Anything else left to do?

When do we get some videos? Any pictures of the actual hardware?

What could go wrong? Click here to enlarge Given the conditions and boost I'm happy with the results. Once you get the meth failsafe working and a few BT logs you can always crank it up. Maybe best to wait until the JB is monitoring timing for you though. Click here to enlarge

We all want to see the track numbers but it is going to be tough to put down anything impressive during the summer. Then again, maybe you guys have good DA even in the summer.

Congrats! I remember reading about your troubles, but had no idea what route you were going.

We need to see some pics of the hardware! Click here to enlarge Btw, give us some pros/cons from your first day driving - what is the learning curve with the new turbos?

LM/Terry, what happens when JB3's safety is hit exactly? How do we tell the wastegate dc% from the JB3 logs?

He hit the overboost safety, so it just switches to map 0, throttle closes, etc. The car sort of jolts back a bit as you suddenly loose 200whp so it can startle you if you're not ready for it.

first day driving i was a little nervous, but the JB3 handled it perfect from the start. the only thing i learned is that these are much more fun, smooth all the way through, low/part/mid/wot. all the same linear feel to it. the best part i can't even explain, the sound.. you KNOW i have something under the hood when im cruising, i have the cowling off anyway, but you here these spool right up.. so sweet, maybe time for a ride int LM RB 335 video Click here to enlarge

if bashing is asking for information, then ok, but i just call that asking for info.

when the failsafe was hit,i didn't exactly hear anything, but the car just jumped a bit, and then kept moving as if on map 0. i was aware that we would probably hit it, but it wasn't "scary" at all Like T said, the car just "lost" 208hp Click here to enlarge

Sticky, i think you need to update your front page's info.. as you can see, the dip on the 502 run was because of us battling a bad tach pick-up all day, not a fluke.

here you see my last 3 runs as we sort out the tuning:

Ok, you did not post this earlier so it seems like legitimate hp you can hit in the real world.

I'm not sure if I want to say it is 502 though. Do you run into the safety each time or what is happening?

on the 502 i hit the jb3 safety, the other runs that cutoff were the bad tach pick up, we had to move it around to a few different injectors.
its your call, since its your site, people will see the 502 when they look anyway, but you can see the 493 was right before it.

I think on a less hot day, maybe first run or 2, those #'s would climb a bit anyway as that was the last run of a few hours of dyno'ing
