BMW e36 328i track car build
Hi all,
thought I'd put up some (many) pics of my e36 328i which I'm converting for track use. By track I mean circuit driving which is pretty common here in the UK. So I picked up a cheap 1999 e36 328i Sport in Techno Violet which had previously been in a small front end bump. As a result it came with an Avus blue front m3 bumper and was significantly cheaper than other ones on the market and being a late model was rust free.
So pics on the first day I bought it home:
Firstly decide to put it on a diet
Including removal of air con system
First performance mod was a 325i m50 manifold and big bore throttle body to give a bit more power
Bought a set of seats, polybushes and Brembo GT brakes off eBay complete with hubs
I moved the car to the rear of the house as I had free'd up some space to work on it
And bought an s50 m3 3.2 rear axle with LSD and brakes (3.23 ratio). Condition of parts were unknown so it was split up to refurbish the consumable parts
Next step was to remove the sound deadening to reduce weight further.
Before
After
I test fitted my VAC style bucket seat mounts. I modified the transmission tunnel with a big hammer so the seat could sit close to the centre.
Next step was to remove the front and rear subframes so that polybushes and new axle could be fitted as well as new suspension
Soon became
Then began rebuild of rear axle by fitting polybushes and painting arms etc. Also I fitted new wheel bearings whilst everything was off
New radiator, I went for a smaller one so I could fit an oil cooler underneath at a later time
Z3 short shift kit with brand new shifter bushings and carrier fitted:
Euro m3 master cylinder and servo fitted
Fitted an s50 euro oil filter housing with setrab cooler
Bought some HSD coilovers second hand which are camber and caster adjustable
Cleaned them up so they looked decent
Then bought a set of D-force LTWs with Federal RSR 595 tyres (currently on my e92 whilst my Alufelgens are being refurbed)
Sold my mtech wheel and replaced it with a dished suede wheel off eBay
Fitted new tie rods and ends to steering rack
And rear adjustable arms
Braided clutch hose
Then started to rebuild rear end
And front end
Adjustable top mounts
And finally swapped out the headers as I snapped one the studs removing the exhaust

Thanks for the kind words.
Forgot to say I have two issues at the moment which are holding up proceedings. I have diff leak and an oil pan leak which need sorting before I continue with the project. Unfortunately with the large case diff I have, the whole rear subframe needs to be dropped. And for the oil pan gasket, the front subframe needs to be dropped also. As a result I've left the car for the last month or two.Alpine White 2008 6MT 335i - Cobb AP - PTF Tuned - RB Turbos - AR DPs - VRSF 3.5" exhaust - Custom FMIC - 380mm BBK F&R - BMS DCI - M3 DCT LSD - Whiteline subframe bushes - M3 Sways and rear arms - M3 wishbones - ER CP - Spec Stage 3+ clutch and steel SMFW - AST 4100 Coilovers - UUC DSSR -UUC Black tranny mounts - TMS Alu diff bushes - Forge DVs - Aquamist HFS-4 meth - Alufelgen CS7s - BMWP V1 Steering Wheel

This is awesome. I would love to do the same to my current car someday, or get another and stay n/a. Make sure to update us with vids.

Thanks for the support guys. I was supposed to continue working on this on the weekend but had to help a friend fix his e30 318i convertible which had many issues. We ended up ripping an e30 touring apart to give us the parts that we needed.
