HPF Stage 2 Feramic vs. ClutchMasters FX-850 - which one?
Hey guys, thought I'd ask for your opinion here..i'm leaning towards the HPF Feramic Stage2 at the moment given my car is a daily driver but beaten on a lot...i'd use a new DMF for it so total price is around $2.5k for clutch kit+oem flywheel...so, no chatter, as smooth as it can be...I'm just not sure how this clutch will fare at the drag strip though with some launches and am afraid it may give out in that respect...tons of boosted HPF m3 guys are running it and having nothing but good results with it...thing is I'm not sure many are hitting the dragstrip but that's just me...
the other option, fx-850 twin disk (1 ceramic back plate, 1 fiber tuff plate facing the flywheel), looks like a heavy duty street+race clutch that'll definitely be harder on the leg and it requires a lightweight flywheel which may/may not impact drag racing...price wise it'll come out to about the same for me in the end as the HPF+OEM flywheel...
so far I had a stock clutch lasted 75,000km, then a clutchmasters fx400 6 puck ceramic that died after only 4500km but CM warrantied the kit and sent me a new one (so great customer service there, no fuss, i did lose labour money though obviously), and currently the car has the ACT street with the OEM DMF which was resurfaced and its lasted 40-45,000km now and its just started to slip a bit in 5th and 6th...i can still drive on it but its on its way out...
what would you go with? I almost put the order through with Branden@HPF yesterday but his line dropped and I'm waiting for him to get back to me...

i know 3 people with the FX400, all of them died prematurely. I wouldn't buy anything CM, sorry to say. That NLS you're doing quite a bit of lately isn't gonna make things much better.
I would give the HPF a try. Probably expensive as hell but i'm sure you'll get what you pay for.

Just becuase your clutch slips when you load up 5th or 6th doesnt mean it will give out any time soon. Its when you start slipping at strip, thats when its time to go shopping

NLS is actually JUST configured properly...all this time its been off in the settings
i just configured it after the last drag strip day when I ran that 126.6mph, sucks...
plan is to order one and get it here so i have something in my hands when it gives out and not waiting for a week or two to get it once the car is up on a lift

Ordered hpf stage 2 feramic through Branden...twin disk would be inappropriate in a daily driven car like mine and in addition to that given the type of driving I do it probably wouldn't last in stop/go traffic and neither would my left leg

How much was it ? and is it you with some kind of module where you don't have to press clutch ? If yes how do you like it ? Thanks ! I'm deciding between manual 335is or 1m, 335is DCT or m3 dct right now ! You think 335is dct fbo+ meth will be quicker from a roll than auto or manual ? Thanks !

Already did it once and it was pretty beat up last time but the shop pulled it off...pretty sure this time around its done...I want to do it right, clutch isn't cheap, I'm trying to find out for sure if the 1M clutch (5lb lighter than regular n54 clutch) fits without issues and I'd go for that

If you don't mind the size or the money go for the 1M no doubt...future collector item and you get to wear that M badge without hassle
and you won't need to mod it much in the beginning, just get a cobb flash for it and meth and you're already set for a long while

I see some people voted "other" in the poll but no one mentioned what other options they'd consider at these power levels (500+wtq)...care to chime in?

lol nothing will snap in 2 pieces
you can do it but your clutch won't last long...you can get a WOTBox and do full throttle shifts (FTS) aka no lift shifts (NLS) aka flat foot shifts (FFS)
Ya, its not cheap...I got my ACT from a forum member for 250and resurfaced my OEM flywheel for 100...that was good times
